Job Summary:
The League Convener position is a part time staff position within the Baptist Health IcePlex Hockey Department. The role is intended to serve as a liaison between league administration and the participants and has been created to assist the Hockey Dept. In achieving it’s goals for the Panthers Adult Hockey League (PAHL) and other leagues as assigned. These leagues emphasize development, sportsmanship, mutual respect, fair play and parity for all players. We are committed to providing fun, competitive and quality leagues in a safe environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure official and scorekeeper coverage for all scheduled games.
- Monitor sign-in to ensure teams have goalies and enough players to avoid forfeit.
- Cross reference scoring system with official/scorekeeper and building schedules to ensure all game schedules are accurate.
- Notification or clarification in regard to league rules, building programs or protocol, and answering questions.
- Watch games to note parity amongst teams, skill level of players, and overall how competitive the games are; Report back to league administration.
- Collection and filing of all game sheets and sign in sheets; submission of game sheets online via scoring system as needed.
- Work with building staff, teams and officials to make sure games stay on time, teams clear locker rooms at the appropriate time and that the building is safe and areas clear when they need to be.
- Distribute league materials as needed.
- Assist our hockey customers and provide excellent service and a quality hockey experience.
- Notify League administration of any issues that arise and oversee league activities.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed to meet the needs of the programs.
Convener Duties specific to Panther’s Development League:
- Check in for arriving adult league players – sign-in process, checking for ID and proper registration, directing traffic to appropriate locker rooms and rinks.
- Distribute scorekeeper tablets used to score games on scoring system.
- Monitor sign-in to make sure teams have goalies and enough players to avoid forfeit; once rosters are locked this also means ensuring that non-roster players do not play.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- General knowledge of the game of hockey.
- General computer skills.
- Excellent customer service skills as initial point of contact.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a Part-Time (hourly) position. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and occasional holidays.
