Job Description

The Daily Beast, a leading name in digital media and technology, is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Chief of Staff to collaborate closely with our Publisher and CEO and Chief Creative and Content Officer. This pivotal role demands an individual with a background in media and tech industries with special focus on digital media. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for news, information, and pop culture, coupled with an interest in content creation and journalism. As the Chief of Staff, you will serve as an integral liaison, ensuring seamless communication and efficient information flow among executive leadership and key stakeholders. With access to sensitive information, discretion is paramount. The role also requires acting as a strategic advisor, helping to shape and drive forward new business initiatives and ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and streamline all administrative functions to ensure smooth operation of the executive's schedule, including management of complex calendars, coordination of travel, and meticulous tracking of expenses.
  • Efficiently capture and funnel innovative ideas to appropriate channels, enhancing business operations and strategy implementation.
  • Organize and prepare for high-level meetings and events, including researching, setting agendas, and crafting impactful PowerPoint presentations.
  • Act as the primary gatekeeper and point of contact for the executive, embodying professionalism and tact in all interactions.
  • Engage actively in fostering team culture through the coordination of events and celebrations, promoting a vibrant and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the media and tech sectors to effectively prioritize the executive’s commitments and optimize their impact.
  • Proactively anticipate needs and manage potential issues before they escalate, ensuring continuous operational fluidity.
  • Cultivate and sustain robust relationships with both creative and business leaders and teammates, facilitating open and effective communication.

Qualifications 

  • Demonstrable experience in media and technology sectors with a strong emphasis on strategy and business development.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a passion for efficiency and order.
  • High level of reliability and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, capable of producing high-quality documents and presentations.
  • Excellent diplomatic skills and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
  • Academic background in business administration, MBA preferred, with significant relevance to media and technology industries.
  • Profound passion for news, information, and pop culture with a keen interest in content creation and journalism.
  • Ability to emulate and communicate in the executive’s style when required, ensuring consistent and effective messaging.
  • Demonstrated capacity for discretion and handling of confidential information with the utmost integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and social media web platforms.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.

The pay range for this position is: $130,000 to $160,000 per year. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and other factors. The range listed is just one component of The Daily Beast’s total compensation package.
