The Executive Editor will oversee a vibrant, scoop-driven newsroom, steering coverage of breaking news, enterprise, and investigations across all sections—from entertainment, culture, media, and travel to politics, opinion, and U.S. and world news. They will coordinate news-gathering with the social and art teams and foster collaboration across the entire staff. They will report to the Editor in Chief and be part of a senior leadership team that sets standards, develops new editorial strategies and innovations, and recruits talent.
Lead and execute the Daily Beast vision and maintain its voice and standards across all editorial products
Provide guidance on what stories the Daily Beast will cover and how, with an eye toward maximum impact and audience resonance
Lead the newsroom in developing the hottest exclusives, sharpest angles, and most gripping story-telling for a loyal and growing audience
Direct editorial staff development and identify and recruit new journalists
Help define and execute editorial strategy, from refining existing news products to launching new initiatives and expanding into new coverage areas
5-8 years experience leading a news team with success in accountability journalism, delivering scoops, and finding unique angles on competitive stories
A high news metabolism, combined with the ability to drill down on long-term investigations and projects
Ability to respond to fast-breaking events in a 24-hour news cycle
A news sense compatible with the Daily Beast sensibility of a whip-smart, high-end tabloid
Willingness to collaborate with others and demonstrated capacity to work well in a team environment
An understanding of audience analytics
A passion for newsroom mentorship
Superb organizational skills
Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written
