The Political Investigations Reporter will report and write news items, analytical stories, and feature-length articles on probes into major political figures and their associates. The Reporter will be an integral part of The Daily Beast’s Politics and U.S. News teams, working on stories about the civil, financial, criminal, and congressional inquiries into these politicians, current and former.
The ideal candidate will have a high news metabolism and must have an understanding of politics, finance, and the law, as well as an ability to cover cases at the local, state, and federal level. The Reporter must be ready to look into the business practices, finances, and conduct in office of major political figures, and those who surround them. And the Reporter must have demonstrated the skills to cultivate sources, sift through public records, break original news, and write with flair.
Responsibilities
Research stories on the civil, criminal, and congressional inquiries into major political figures.
Write news items, analytical pieces, and features.
Land exclusive stories.
Contribute to breaking news coverage of major events.
Work on a newsletter and/or podcast on these broad themes.
Qualifications
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
Willingness to collaborate with other reporters, editors, and media partners.
Strong writing skills.
Demonstrated track record of investigative reporting.
Proven capacity to dig through financial and legal documents.
A self-starter who can conceive and execute stories with impact.
Ability to take initiative, receive constructive feedback, and work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated capacity to work well in a team environment.
An interest in newsletters and/or podcasts is a plus.
At least 5 years of reporting experience.
Can be located in New York City or Washington, DC.
