As a Lead Writer, you’ll play a key role in crafting the game’s narrative experience, from the overall story, to characters, to missions and other content. We want someone who’s an amazing writer, passionate about storytelling in games (and understands the advantages and disadvantages of working within the medium), and has an exceptionally high quality bar. You should be open to collaboration, constructive criticism, and believe that quality game writing is achieved through iteration and working closely with the other disciplines. This is a fantastic opportunity to get in the ground floor of a new studio dedicated to telling impactful, mature stories.
Work closely with the studio narrative director to establish the project’s overall narrative, characters, missions, side missions, and other narrative content.
Own specific areas of the game’s narrative.
Brainstorm and collaborate with design and art to create best-in-class missions and other content.
Help establish quality standards for other members of the narrative department.
Mentor and manage other members of the narrative department as needed. Provide constructive feedback to team.
5+ years of experience as a writer within the industry (comparable experience considered).
At least one shipped AAA+ game, preferably in a senior or lead role.
Experience with Final Draft and other writing software.
Deep understanding of how interactive narratives function and how they intersect with the other disciplines on the project.
Passion for gaming.
Self-motivated. Able to receive and give constructive feedback and guidance.
Experience managing writers preferred.
Experience with casting and directing VO sessions preferred.
Writing samples and/or completion of a short writing test is required. To prioritize health and safety during the pandemic, we are working remotely until further notice, and will be conducting interviews virtually. The position is still expected to be 100% onsite in Irvine, California as soon as it is appropriate.
