Your Role:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Performance Marketing, the Principal SEO Manager will help to lead and scale our global SEO efforts across a portfolio of products. This role is critical to driving organic visibility, increasing website traffic for Tenable.com as well as all Tenable sub-domains, and improving conversion rates  The global nature of this role necessitates knowing global SEO strategies, as well as understanding Google, Bing and other search engines algorithms for the 8 different web languages that Tenable operates under. 

The high visibility that comes along with the Principal SEO Manager position also requires the ability to present on SEO findings to senior-level team members, as well as regional marketing partners. This role will be a part of the Performance Marketing team, and will collaborate closely with the Product Marketing, Content and Web teams to build and deliver a cohesive and impactful SEO strategy that aligns with our growth objectives. 


Your Opportunity:

SEO Strategy: 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive SEO strategy that aligns with business goals across multiple products, regions and languages. 

  • Establish a shared  SEO-driven growth strategy by collaborating with company stakeholders to build a consensus on priorities

  • Manage the SEO user experience across the buyer’s journey, creating strategic SEO planning documents, reports, project plans, website analyses and recommendations for content and site architecture enhancements

Technical SEO and Content

  • Partner with web team to implement technical optimizations, such as site architecture improvements and performance optimizations

  • Ensure new web pages and content adhere to SEO best practices by guiding both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Continuously refine content strategies that position the company as a leader in the industry, keeping pace with evolving competitive and strategic priorities

  • Collaborate with the product and content teams to craft and optimize high-impact content tailored to search intent, target keywords, and user engagement while aligning with product messaging

Keyword Research and Optimization

  • Conduct ongoing in-depth keyword research to optimize existing content areas and identify opportunities for new product releases

  • Monitor and analyze keyword rankings, sharing performance insights regularly 

  • Collaborate with paid search manager to share insights, streamline cross-channel strategies, and improve efficiency using tools such as Cross-Brand 

Analytics and Reporting: 

  • Utilize tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and SEO platforms to monitor performance, provide actionable insights

  • Utilize business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and multi-touch attribution to understand direct and influenced metrics

  • Define and track KPIs, conduct root cause analysis, and communicate trends and recommendations to stakeholders to enhance performance at scale

  • Champion organic search as a critical revenue driver, integrating it into broader revenue marketing efforts

Experimentation: 

  • Design and conduct SEO experiments using data-driven methods such as A/B testing and statistical analysis to measure and improve performance

Key Decisions:

  • Determine the keyword focus and technical elements that will have the greatest impact on tenable.com’s organic search and placement

  • Identify the agencies and programs that will move tenable.com to the next level of scale 

  • Identify the areas of focus that will have the greatest impact on international growth and placement. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration: 

  • Serve as the SEO subject matter expert, collaborating with Product Marketing, Regional Marketing and Performance Marketing teams to embed SEO best practices into broader strategies

  • Lead complex cross-functional on-page optimization projects, leveraging advanced data models to drive data-driven content

Emerging Trends

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, algorithm updates, and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge

  • Contribute to organizational knowledge sharing, driving global SEO improvements in collaboration with stakeholders.

Team leadership: 

  • Manage relationship with SEO agency, clearly communicating business priorities and translating agency recommendations into actionable plans.

  • Partner closely with the Performance Marketing team to align SEO strategies with the buyer’s journey and paid digital efforts.

What You'll Need:

  • 12+ years’ overall experience in marketing, digital marketing or web with at at least 7+ years of experience in SEO management required, preferably within a B2B context and global context

  • Proven track record of driving organic growth for multiple products or business units

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or related field preferred or equivalent experience

  • Expertise in technical SEO, on-page optimization and content strategy, with the ability to structure programs and translate data into actionable insights

  • Strong analytical skills to identify and communicate data-driven insights tailored to diverse audiences.

  • Proficiency with SEO tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Data Studio Dashboards and other related tools (e.g., Conductor, BrightEdge, Screaming Frog, Botify, DeepCrawl, etc.)

  • Familiarily with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and CMS platforms

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Skilled in presenting key takeaways and actionable steps in a concise and approachable manner.

  • Solution-oriented team player with experience gaining consensus in a matrixed environment to plan and execute SEO strategies.

  • Capable of balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution

  • Ability to work at a computer for an extended period of time

  • Globally distributed client organization that operates both in-office and remotely

  • Participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings; sometimes being the presenter of these trainings

  • Infrequent travel required

This is the base pay range for this position. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, location and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Employees are also eligible for variable compensation in addition to base pay (commission for sales roles, bonus for non-sales roles), depending on company and individual performance.
