WHAS11, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Louisville, is searching for an ambitious and creative Digital Content Producer who thrives in a fast-paced news environment and has an audience-first approach to writing, producing and distributing local news content.

Our digital producers monitor digital audience trends to identify and write engaging local news content that broadens our audience. They are responsible for curating quality content and overseeing the audience experience across all WHAS11 website, mobile, app, streaming and social media platforms. They work as part of the larger content team to break news and tell great stories in a 24/7 news environment.

Digital Content Producers are leaders in our newsroom who aggressively cover breaking and developing stories through a filter of strong news judgment. Digital Content Producers also have an eye for the stories that will drive our KPIs and know how to win the day, every day.

Louisville is a competitive market with a busy news cycle. Here you will have the chance to contribute to coverage that includes the Kentucky Derby, Thunder Over Louisville, bourbon industry, University of Louisville and University of Kentucky athletics, economic development, and just about everything in between.

This individual will report to the Director of Digital Content. The successful candidate is a strong writer with solid digital experience and news judgment. Qualified candidates will have experience posting stories to digital-mobile-social platforms, working knowledge of online CMS software, familiarity with digital metrics and KPIs, video and photo editing skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Produce digital first, engaging storytelling through articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements.
  • Focus on accuracy and balance in digital articles and social content through copy editing.
  • Engage in social listening: monitor social chatter and track trending stories via Taboola, SocialNewsDesk, Google Trends and our social platforms.
  • Aggressively cover breaking news for digital/social platforms through breaking news push alerts, live streams, social posts and web articles.
  • Use digital and social analytics to inform editorial decisions.
  • Curate the WHAS11 homepage and app.
  • Assist reporters and anchors in the creation of digital stories.
  • Report digital technical issues and follow-through on resolution.
  • Communicate with the newsroom and take ownership of all news that comes into the building during your shift.
  • Implement best practices on WHAS11 digital and social platforms.
  • Ensure newsroom upholds journalistic integrity across all platforms.
  • Give the digital update in editorial meetings and pitch reporter stories.

Requirements: 

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications and/or equivalent experience in the field
  • 1-2 years experience working as a digital producer or journalist in a professional setting
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and rapidly changing coverage
  • Strong news and editorial judgment, and an understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • Strong knowledge of AP style, copy editing and SEO best practices
  • Experience with CMS, photo and video-editing systems preferred
  • The ability to write in an exciting, captivating and conversational tone is preferred
  • Experience creating and managing content on social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
  • An aptitude for creating and packaging engaging, audience-driven content
  • Knowledge of how to interpret and use digital analytics is a plus
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, Canva is a plus
  • Ability to work various shifts, including mornings, nights and weekends, from time-to-time
