FOX61 is searching for an Assignment Desk Manager to help lead our station in content gathering. The right person for this role is a strong journalist and master at communication and organization. They maintain composure during breaking news and know what steps to take as news is developing. They’re also a people leader with a track record of building and maintaining a high-performing team.

Responsibilities:

•  Prepare for daily editorial meetings and act as coordinator for handoff between morning, dayside and nightside crews

•  Manage team of assignment editors and participate in scheduling meetings to ensure full coverage of shifts

•  Drive breaking news coverage through gathering information and handling crew logistics

•  Collaborates with editorial managers on assigning daily news stories and planning large news event coverage

•  Reviews news releases, monitors police and fire scanners, and checks social media and other local news sources for story ideas

•  Represent FOX61 in conversations with other media organizations and officials about pool coverage and access issues

Requirements:

•  College degree in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience

•  Minimum 3-5 years in a local newsroom preferred

•  Strong communication, conflict management, and customer service skills

•  Efficient organizational skills in a fast paced and deadline driven environment

•  Sound news judgment with the ability to work under tight deadlines and in stressful situations

•  Extensive knowledge of social media, content gathering tools and technologies

•  Ability to perform basic digital producing tasks like writing and copyediting

•  Experience cultivating and develop working relationships with local newsmakers and their staff

Pay Range
$55,000$65,000 USD
