At KING 5 we Stand for Truth. KING 5 News is looking for a Pierce County Bureau Chief. Our successful candidate will focus on the South Sound region, covering a wide range of newsworthy topics and events; win the day with strong story pitches and enterprise story development; provide innovative storytelling content on TV and digital platforms. If you’re an A-block, hard-hitting journalist with a keen sense of news commitment and public service then this role is perfect for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate leads and tips, conduct interviews, research stories, and write news stories.
  • Report on newsworthy events meeting broadcast and publication deadlines.
  • Create compelling web content.
  • Collaborate with KING’s award-winning photojournalists on storytelling projects for digital and broadcast.
  • Maintain story calendar and pitch impactful, newscast-leading stories.
  • Establish trusted relationships within the South Sound communities.
  • Monitor the communities in the South Sound and advocate to cover the best stories possible.
  • Calmly and effectively handle live, breaking news situations and rapidly changing events.

Requirements:

  • At least three years’ experience as a reporter in a large broadcast market or at least five years’ experience in a mid or small market.
  • Exceptional writing skills for both broadcast and digital platforms.
  • A demonstrated a history of smart and engaging live shots.
  • Able to write and collaborate on stories with tight deadlines.
  • Able to work mornings, nights, and weekend shifts.
  • Reside within 15 miles of Tacoma.
  • Active presence on social media.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the South Sound market is a plus
  • Fluency in a second language is a plus.
  • This position is full-time, salaried, and Union represented.
Pay Range
$85,000$100,000 USD
