WFAA is looking for a creative and ambitious MSJ/Producer to join the WFAA news team. The ideal candidate will be a key contributor to the overall content strategy for our sports department as a reporter, photojournalist, and producer, with some fill-in anchor responsibilities.

A successful candidate must be eager to tell great stories on their own or with a team by capturing creative video & audio elements that produce compelling and engaging news, sports, and feature stories in a deadline environment. This person will also be the lead producer responsible for coordinating and producing a weekly, sponsored high school sports special.

Responsibilities:

  •  MSJ/report daily stories
  • Anchor sports shows as needed
  • Collaborate with sports director, news managers, news producers, production team, and control room team on show content and execution of weekly sponsored sports show and daily sportscasts
  • Create and manage show rundowns, line produce daily/weekly shows
  • Shoot and edit content for nightly newscasts
  • Propose original, timely and innovative content ideas
  • Create, write content for digital and social media platforms
  • Coordinate sponsored elements in shows
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Requirements:
  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 5 years experience reporting
  • Strong writing background
  • Understanding of the tenants of professional journalism
  • A portfolio with examples of breaking and enterprise news/sports reporting
  • Knowledge of non-linear editing systems (Edius, Premier)
  • Familiar with newsroom production systems (ENPS or equivalent)
  • Ability to use a MSJ camera
  • Effective knowledge of digital/social platforms
  • Demonstrate strong news judgement in editorial conversations
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliable
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Knowledge of Dallas-Fort Worth sports is a plus
  • Be actively involved in the north Texas community
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Outdoors: performed in various outdoor environmental conditions
  • Physical Demands Set: Medium work: Involves standing prolong hours, stooping, bending, lifting/pushing up to 25 lbs.
