KHOU, TEGNA's CBS affiliate in the Houston, has an opportunity for a cutting-edge, Digital Multiskilled Journalist to create and produce content for our digital, social and on-air platforms. This is a chance to showcase your strong writing and keen eye for video storytelling at one of the most trusted local news brands in the country. The ideal candidate is a creative, strong self-starter and a one-person content machine who’s not afraid to think, write and produce outside the box.
• You’ll use your shooting/editing/storytelling skills to create original content for all platforms.
• You'll have an original, strategic multi-platform approach to every piece of content you touch.
• You'll go live on our digital and social platforms for breaking news and engaging content to interact with our audience
• You'll create longform content for our growing Plus platform
• You’ll use social listening and engagement to discover, curate content and build our brand’s relationship with the audience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, publish and update KHOU 11 content
- Shoot and edit original video for all platforms.
- Research, create and integrate original content, including text, images, graphics, video and social media.
- Write and produce content and manage live streams for web, mobile, OTT and social platforms.
- Participate in daily news meetings and work with content team to develop original digital content opportunities.
- Understand and achieve metrics goals by using our analytic tools.
- Create long form content for KHOU 11+
- Be an active front-line social listener with the KHOU 11 audience, helping our entire newsroom further amplify our content while also sourcing new ideas through engagement.
Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in journalism, mass communications or related field.
- At least three years of professional digital content production experience.
- Solid digital news background with professional experience covering breaking news on camera, and across multiple platforms.
- Experience with video editing.
- Experience with videography.
- Demonstrated ability to engage audience with dynamic headlines and social media posts.
- Strong understanding of AP style, including ability to rapidly edit and/or rewrite stories.
- Highly motivated individual with creative and aggressive approach to driving digital results.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task confidently under tight deadlines.
- Experience working with a digital content management system.
- Experience curating and presenting data in an understandable, shareable format.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including night, weekend and holiday shifts.
- Bilingual, (English & Spanish) speaking preferred
- Understanding of the tenants of professional journalism
