KARE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul, has an outstanding opportunity for an Evening News Anchor who can attract audience through compelling presentation and who can produce high quality journalism along with a team of award-winning journalists.

The successful candidate will be a newsroom leader and team player, capable of lifting our newscasts with a dynamic delivery, excellent interviewing and writing skills and the ability to clearly and calmly communicate and ad-lib in breaking news or weather situations. Candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with a co-anchor and other team members. Experience in field- anchoring major events is desired.

The ideal candidate will be able to help grow a brand known industry-wide, for outstanding storytelling, photography, investigative journalism, and inclusive, community-focused content.

Candidates must be strong journalists, capable of producing memorable enterprise content and able to land market exclusive interviews and stories for various content platforms. You will also serve as a mentor and coach to other newsroom employees.

We are looking for someone who can authentically communicate stories, has superior news judgment, is forward-thinking and innovative, and is willing to collaborate with producers and other teammates to create fresh and compelling newscasts and content on emerging platforms. Our ideal candidate will also know how to effectively utilize social media to engage our audience.

Connecting with our community, which serves both Minnesota and western Wisconsin, is also a priority. We want someone who will be actively involved in building key relationships and partnerships that align with the station’s goals of growing audience and increasing community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Anchor multiple evening newscasts.
  • Creatively build and leverage external partnerships to forge new relationships and increase community impact.
  • Generate unique and compelling stories and show ideas around topics impacting our community.
  • Take a leadership role in newscast content and production.
  • Represent KARE and its community-focused brand at station events, civic engagements, and other public appearances.
  • Work cross-departmentally to achieve station goals.
  • Collaborate with producers, reporters, photojournalists, managers, and other team members.

Requirements: 

  • At least 10 years of journalism experience, including regular opportunities to anchor newscasts
  • Strong on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib.
  • Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills.
  • Strong social media presence.
  • Strong leadership qualities with prior experience in motivating, engaging, and recognizing team members on multiple projects.
  • Passion for being involved in the community and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Innovative mindset that can challenge the status quo and bring forward new ideas to evolve both linear and digital content.
  • The ability to coach and collaborate with teammates on content projects.
  • Sound news judgment and a proven track record of producing enterprise content.
  • Work environment: Set, office, normally performed in a typical interior/office environment. Field anchoring from the scene of major news events, breaking news and/or special station events can be required, as necessary.
