WXIA-WATL is looking for an innovative and aggressive journalist to join our team in Atlanta as a sports MSJ. The ideal candidate will be a key contributor to our overall content strategy and must be eager to produce great stories on their own or with a team by capturing compelling video and interviews for our linear and various digital platforms.

This journalist should be a self-starter who is committed to developing sources to break news and identify strong enterprise content. Successful candidates will be familiar with the current Atlanta sports scene and actively follow sports events on a local, national, and international level.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the sports department, assignment desk, and production team to coordinate stories and creatively present content. Work with sports department to guide newsroom during breaking sports news.
  • Generate timely, original story ideas and have the skills as a multi-skilled journalist to write, produce, shoot and edit compelling sports content for daily newscasts, sportscasts, sports specials, and digital platforms.
  • Report in field and anchor sportscasts as needed.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of a variety of sports and actively follow all sporting news developments.
  • Write and post daily on digital platforms.
  • Participate in promotional appearances and represent WXIA at community events.

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience as a sports anchor/MSJ for live and recorded broadcasts and digital platforms
  • Ability to shoot/edit content on your own and with a team.
  • Possess a clear understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.
  • Committed to developing contacts and sources to aid in newsgathering. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and react in live situations to cover breaking news.
  • Contribute ideas for daily content and recognize angles, perspectives, and interview that would make for urgent or interesting sports stories.
  • Research stories to ensure accuracy, write clearly in broadcast style, and present stories in an engaging and compelling manner.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to collaborate with sports team.
  • Journalism or Mass Communication degree preferred
  • Knowledge of ENPS ad Edius preferred
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
