WQAD News 8 in Davenport, IA is looking for an Anchor to help Quad Citizens start their day on the right foot!  The right candidate is a dynamic, engaging, and enterprising journalist who thrives in a fast-paced environment.  This journalist would anchor Good Morning Quad Cities five days a week, and report as needed. 

The successful candidate is a team player and newsroom leader with excellent communication skills. The candidate should be comfortable delivering live reports every day and covering breaking news as needed. This candidate will be expected to generate their own story ideas that will be impactful to a morning and midday audience.

Broadcast skills are important and so is the ability to write for all platforms. The ideal candidate must have a good understanding of social media, emerging platforms, and have a strong social presence.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver on-air news reports in an engaging and accurate manner.
  • Enterprise compelling content that can lead shows, break news and drive an audience to watch.
  • Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
  • Need to have or develop skills to shoot, write and edit content for air as a multiskilled journalist.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms and social media.
  • Transmit and present exciting live reports.
  • Anchor newscasts as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor.

Requirements: 

  • A Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, communications or other related degree.
  • Anchor experience is preferred.
  • Possess a clear understanding of the tenets of professional, ethical journalism.
  • Strong awareness of current events, especially at the local and regional level.
  • Must have organizational skills and be able to work under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of ENPS and Edius is a plus.

Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%

Work Environment Set: Outdoors: performed in various outdoor environmental conditions

Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
