KPNX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking an accomplished sales leader to spearhead operations in Phoenix while collaborating on sales strategies aligned with the TEGNA station in Tucson, AZ. The Director of Sales will be responsible for formulating, directing, and implementing the station’s sales strategy to meet or surpass annual budget goals, fostering revenue growth across linear, streaming, and digital platforms. Additionally, the director of sales is also responsible for cultivating a high-performing sales team, empowering sales managers and staff, and securing alignment to ensure effective execution of the TEGNA Arizona sales strategy.

This position is also eligible for the Company's bonus plan(s). 

Responsibilities:

  • Build the sales strategy to achieve or exceed the station’s revenue goals.
  • Recruit, develop, retain, and supervise an elite, and highly performing sales team.
  • Price and manage inventory to meet and exceed budget goals with accurate forecasting.
  • Work collaboratively with all station’s department heads and the General Manager to create incremental revenue opportunities and ensure a smooth experience for clients from order to implementation of their marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with marketing and news leaders on ratings, estimates and projections to optimize value.
  • Gain understanding of the market and the business opportunities available to grow market share in each revenue stream by leveraging TEGNA’s resources.
  • Develop strong relationships with local advertisers and agencies to grow business and develop new opportunities.
  • Lead change effectively and embrace new product opportunities.
  • Closely partner with TEGNA Sales to optimize opportunities with national and political accounts and grow shares.
  • Regularly maintain various reports needed for station leadership and TEGNA Corporate leadership.
  • Represent station in external sales and marketing-related industry functions.
  • Travel on a regular basis and attend sales-related functions after business hours.

 

 

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of TV sales experience with 3 to 5 years of experience in broadcast TV sales leadership role with a record of accomplishment of achieving or exceeding goals, political experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of marketing solutions spanning linear broadcast TV and digital solutions, including OTT/CTV.
  • Established knowledge of political and national advertising sales cycle.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of cultivating a strong performing team and building a positive and inclusive culture.
  • Ability to effectively manage a large staff with various skill sets.
  • Proficiency with CRM system, MS Office, Google Analytics, Wide Orbit Sales, Wide Orbit Traffic & Wide Orbit Analytics, Sharebuilder, ComScore, Matrix, Tableau, and qualitative data.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think and lead strategically and be a proven problem solver and thought leader.
  • Strategic thinker and disciplined executor comfortable developing and making recommendations to senior management.
  • Strong presenter and communicator with internal and external customers and partners.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects effectively under deadline pressure, and able to promptly adapt to changing priorities and goals.
