Job Summary
Techstars operates 50+ Accelerator programs around the globe, and we’re looking for a General Manager (GM) who can provide strategic guidance and leadership to our Corporate Partner Accelerators. The GM is the leader of the Techstars Accelerator programs in the Americas and will have a deep understanding of technology, startups, entrepreneurship, and venture capital. This role provides a holistic strategy for the region, requiring alignment with our Investments, Revenue, and Capital team as we build the capabilities to support investment in thousands of entrepreneurs annually. Internally, this role will include ownership of the recruitment, training, and management of Managing Directors (MD) across the region, facilitating the hiring and management of program teams, and working with other operational units within Techstars to ensure the exceptional delivery of our programs. Externally, this leader will work with the Partners closely to deliver exceptional outcomes across their business objectives, investment quality, and founder outcomes.

Responsibilities and Duties

Ownership of the Region: (STRATEGY)

  • Align the region with the Techstars vision, direction, and support of overall organization objectives.
  • Establish and execute the regional strategy, including growth within existing programs and new territories within theyour region.
  • Participation in the annual planning processes for budgeting and growth within the defined territory and Techstars globally.
  • Develop scalable systems and processes to regularly provide bi-directional updates to Techstars’ investment portfolio across the region.
  • Manage relationships and engage directly with senior leadership of Techstars.
  • Represent Techstars across the region internally and externally

Develop and Manage Managing Directors: (LEADERSHIP)

  • Recruit, train, develop, and manage a team of Managing Directors
  • Servant leader to each program team in the region, creating a holistic delivery plan and accountable for successful execution 
  • Execute all aspects of employee leadership, including career development and the delivery of comprehensive training and coaching sessions to maximize the productivity of program teams
  • Manage and coordinate with other GMs and MDs, including identifying common themes, sharing best practices and highlighting areas of innovation and improvement across the global Techstars’ network.
  • Establish and manage quarterly business and performance metrics reviews

Execute Strategy and Build Partnerships: (GROWTH)

  • Provide leadership and coordination with the Revenue team on behalf of the region and execute management of all contractual relationships with corporate partners and LP’s 
  • Contribute to our global success by spearheading special projects related to scaling the accelerator platform, integrating with other internal functions, cross-functional panels, etc
  • Engage with founders, mentors, investors and corporate partners to ensure the successful execution of programs and increased IRR for our investments
  • Partnering with internal Techstars’ teams to create and drive the pipeline and recruitment of new companies across the entire Techstars network 
  • Service the Techstars’ network overall: mentor new GMs, assist in other programs, work on strategic initiatives and develop meaningful and beneficial relationships across the Techstars ecosystem

Qualifications and Skills

  • 15+ years of experience in fast-paced environments within technology, startups, consulting/professional services, entrepreneurship and/or venture capital
  • Partner management / consulting experience highly desirable
  • Strong emotional intelligence, experience with recruiting, hiring and managing teams of remote staff
  • Proficiency in operating independently while exceeding expectations
  • Comfortable commanding a room; public speaking and community development is part of the job

  • History of delivering high quality customer satisfaction through CSAT and Net Promoter systems
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; MBA preferred
  • Ability to travel 50% within territory, as well as other meetings and events around the globe

Compensation
$250,000-$275,000 base salary + bonus
