Job Summary

Techstars is an early stage Venture Capital Investor. As an individual contributor on our Capital Team, the Vice President of Capital Formation will be responsible for identifying, pitching and closing investors for our current and future funds, specifically focused on smaller institutional investors, along with family offices and high net worth individuals. They will work alongside our head of capital formation to develop a comprehensive fundraising approach to scale our current capital base into our future fund products. Techstars has $745M AUM and the most recent closed fund is $146M. We have ambitions to scale our capital under management significantly over the next several years.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop a strong understanding of Techstars’ brand, operations, and investment strategies 
  • Pitch the investment strategies of Techstars in simple and compelling ways while also being able to explain the details of our approach with precision
  • Build a pipeline of new investors, working inside Techstars software tools
  • Leads with a clear and detailed understanding of a investor’s portfolio construction and risk framework to determine how Techstars funds and strategies fit
  • Contribute to the creation of marketing and fundraising collateral for investors that is customized both to the investor type and context
  • Support the subscription process for committed investors
  • Support the management of existing and new investor relationships
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Utilizes a disciplined process of outreach and follow up with relevant information on a periodic basis
  • Works with firm leadership, investment teams, finance, and legal teams to advise on new products, existing structures/fees, SMA’s and/or JV opportunities
  • Work alongside the LP relations lead to ensure investors have a seamless and positive experience investing in Techstars products

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong candidates will have 7-10 years of experience selling unique investment products to, or working in the private markets, including to HNW, Family Offices, RIAs or Private Banks
  • Verifiable history of fundraising success
  • Superb interpersonal, negotiation, and communications skills and 
  • Passion for working in a results-oriented environment; execution orientedSelf sufficient and organized, but willing to work collaboratively across teams at Techstars
  • Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial nature
  • Travel requirements: 50-75%

Compensation range: Base salary starting at $300,000 - $350,000 + Bonus
