As a leader within the agency, the Account Director (Business Director, internally) helps shape our client’s strategic path, partnering with them to realize their vision. In partnership with the Business Lead, the Business Director will help deliver engaging, distinctive, and meaningful communications that drive an intended behavioral/emotional consumer response, delivering customer and financial outcomes for our clients, whilst striving for creative excellence.

The Business Director acts as a custodian of our client’s brand and a champion of their customer. The Business Director is a business savvy trusted client partner that key stakeholders naturally look to, to help weigh options, evaluate trade-offs and make decisions. With an in-depth understanding of the client’s business, and a passion for exceptional work this individual is determined to make a dent in the world.

 

What You’ll Do:

The Business Director will work across our growing PLEX practice in NYC, with an immediate focus on ExxonMobil and Raytheon Technologies. PLEX is TBWA’s specialty practice that builds brands for the world's most complex and technical businesses, especially in the B2B space.  It's our belief that the challenges of these businesses have never been more exciting because they present the opportunity to do truly disruptive work that helps B2B marketing keep pace with B2B's innovative products.

The Business Director will also play an active role in pitching new business opportunities to continue to grow our PLEX team. Experience on pitches or new business development is preferred.

  2. Command of the room
    • With an in-depth understanding of the client’s business, the client, and our ideas the Business Director has command of the room
    • They are articulate and ooze confidence. They are always poised and ready to react to whatever question or challenge may come their way. The right candidate is a go getter, a self-starter that is passionate about solving complex business problems and operational challenges, they see the role of a businessperson as more than just the typical ‘Account person’
    • The Business Director studies every situation, understands the work we present, and has a well thought out point of view in preparation for any meeting, whether it be internal with key agency stakeholders or externally with clients
    • The Business Director is decisive in ambiguous situations and can effortlessly navigate even the most complex debates ensuring we always get to clarity
  3. Enterprise leadership
    • You know what it takes to run a business and you manage your clients this way
    • You maintain and apply a broad understanding of financial management principles to ensure decisions are fiscally sound and responsible
    • In partnership with the Business Lead and your Finance Business Partner, you are responsible for the profitability of your client business. You are responsible for scope development, monitoring utilization, and team resourcing
    • You see even the smallest briefs as an opportunity for growth, and know how to unlock potential
    • With an understanding of the broader TBWA/ Omnicom offering, in partnership with the Business Lead you look for ways to outsource or offshore aspects of your business in order to drive efficiency, optimizing your operation to increase profitability. You are obsessed with the numbers as you have skin in the game, you sweat utilization as you appreciate and understand how we make money as a business
  4. Mastery of debate
    • The Business Director is comfortable at the center of agency / client debate. They demonstrate a deep understanding and compassion for both sides, removing emotion, and is able to develop an argument based on fact and through persuasion sell that argument back to both parties
  5. Motivation of the Army
    • Your upbeat, positive, optimistic nature keeps the team engaged, happy, and motivated through the most challenging tasks
    • You have the ability to shift any conversation (even the challenging ones!), helping the team navigate even the most difficult of situations
    • Your enthusiasm and passion for our work is infectious, to the point that influences the entire team and can shift the tone of a room or conversation
    • You lead the interagency team, you are the person everyone looks to for guidance or advice in solving a complex problem
    • You are a master mediator when problems arise with internal teams, with the client, or our agency partners

Location:

Given the nature of our Business team and the client assigned to this role, we are only considering candidates that currently live in or wish to relocate to New York City, in the near future (first 60 days of employment).

The annual salary range for this role is $130,000-$180,000 and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic location and experience. Other compensation includes relocation costs, if applicable.
