Role: Network Engineer 

As a Network Engineer with tastytrade you’ll be part of the team that builds out the retail brokerage business and supports our other business initiatives. You’ll help tastytrade exceed this goal by bringing a detail-oriented approach, be up to date with current and future networking technologies, proactively identifying potential issues on tastytrade’s infrastructure and taking on a variety of tasks and projects. Our primary focus is maintaining the most reliable and performant network possible for the best possible customer experience. 

This position is based in tastytrade's Chicago office and requires travel to tastytrade's data center locations (greater Chicago metro and New Jersey) as needed. 

What you’ll do: 

  • Collaborate with the rest of the tastytrade network team to help design, implement, and manage tastytrade’s network infrastructure 
  • Leverage automation skills and take a "dev ops" approach to improve efficiency and resiliency of the network environment 
  • Contribute to the advancement of our monitoring and alerting systems 
  • Maintain comprehensive network diagrams and documentation, creating new artifacts where necessary 
  • Monitor, guard and analyze the network infrastructure from threats. 
  • Partner with the development team to deliver value to tastytrade's customers 
  • Provide technical support to employees as needed 
  • Troubleshoot network, security or voice related issues through resolution 
  • Participate in a network on-call rotation 
  • Assist with data center operations, maintenance, migrations and upgrades 

Who you are: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field experience 
    CCNP or equivalent cert or network experience 
  • Strong understanding of switching and routing concepts and demonstrable experience managing switching and routing in a medium to large-scale network. 
  • Have advanced knowledge of TCP/IP stack, Switches, Routers, Firewalls, IPS/IDS, and Linux 
  • Advanced understanding and a history of working with protocols including: BGP, Vxlan, and vPCs 
  • Have a history of supporting mission critical, production network infrastructure and are able to respond quickly while remaining calm during high-pressure incidents 
  • Take a high degree of ownership in your work, constantly striving to improve the state of the infrastructure 
  • Strong history of working as part of a larger team where collaboration and constructive conflict exist 
  • Desire to master your craft and become a subject matter expert in multiple facets of network infrastructure 
  • Familiarity with and current experience of designing and maintaining Cloud Network Infrastructure (AWS/GCP) 
  • Able to lift to 75lbs (network equipment, servers, cabling), comfortable working in a datacenter environment, and moving equipment across datacenters 

Additional, But Not Required Qualifications: 

  • Advanced knowledge and history working with Linux networking including diagnostic tools (packet capture) 
  • Experience working in the financial services or a similarly regulated industry 
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code tooling (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Arista Cloudvision) 
  • Experience with configuration management technologies such as Ansible and/or Chef 
  • Strong familiarity with ticketing systems (Jira) and modern version control, i.e. git(hub) 
  • Experience with Arista, Checkpoint, Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto is a plus
