POSITION OVERVIEW

The Medical Director will serve as a clinical and strategic leader within the Grey Health community, providing broad expertise across multiple therapeutic areas, including neurology, diabetes, oncology, and other key areas. This role ensures the seamless integration of clinical accuracy and marketing innovation in all campaigns, supporting clients by translating complex medical data into clear, actionable strategies. The Medical Director will work cross-functionally to deliver medically sound, compliant, and engaging healthcare communications and will report into the Head of Strategy.  As a member of our Toronto studio, you will join a dynamic, globally-minded team surrounded by some of the brightest minds in their fields and get to work in one of the newest WPP campuses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Strategic Leadership: 

  • Guide strategic planning for a diverse range of therapeutic areas, with a focus on neurology, diabetes, oncology, and other specialties.
  • Develop brand and disease area strategies grounded in clinical evidence and aligned with business objectives. 
  • Simplify and translate complex medical information into clear, compelling, and creative messaging for healthcare professionals and patients. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure campaigns are both scientifically accurate and strategically aligned with client goals. 

Medical & Regulatory Compliance: 

  • Ensure all medical content complies with regulatory standards, including PAAB, ASC, FDA and other global health authorities. 
  • Review and approve promotional and educational materials, ensuring scientific accuracy and adherence to clinical guidelines. 
  • Facilitate smooth content approval processes with client medical, legal, and regulatory (MLR) teams. 

Content Development: 

  • Provide scientific direction for the creation of promotional, educational, and digital content across therapeutic areas, including diabetes, neurology, oncology, and others. 
  • Work closely with creative teams to develop impactful, scientifically accurate content that resonates with target audiences. 
  • Ensure that all content is aligned with clinical data and remains compliant with regulatory standards. 

Client Engagement & Relationship Building: 

  • Act as a key medical advisor to clients, offering expertise across multiple therapeutic areas, including but not limited to oncology, diabetes, and neurology. 
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, explaining complex scientific concepts in accessible, strategic ways. 
  • Support business development through thought leadership and active participation in pitches, demonstrating strategic medical expertise. 

Market Insights & Research: 

  • Stay current with trends and developments across various therapeutic areas, providing insights on emerging opportunities and industry challenges. 
  • Conduct and evaluate market research, clinical studies, and scientific literature to inform client strategies and recommendations. 

Team Leadership & Collaboration: 

  • Mentor and manage junior medical team members, promoting a culture of scientific rigor and excellence. 
  • Collaborate with strategy, creative, account, and client services teams to ensure consistency and accuracy in all client deliverables. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: 

  • MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare advertising, medical communications, or pharmaceutical marketing. 
  • Broad clinical expertise, especially in neurology, diabetes, oncology, and other therapeutic areas. 
  • Strong ability to interpret complex scientific information and communicate it effectively to a range of audiences. 
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with experience working directly with clients in a fast-paced agency environment. 
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks (FDA, EMA). 
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams. 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience in a variety of therapeutic areas including oncology, neurology, diabetes, and cardiology. 
  • Familiarity with omnichannel marketing strategies and digital health trends. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
