Job Title: Senior Credit Risk Manager 
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 09.00 - 17.00, 36.25 hours per week 
Salary: £90,000 - £100,000 and up to 20% bonus and benefits 
Location: Hybrid work from our London office in Holborn

Your team: Collaborators in change  

Key responsibilities include developing, monitoring and refining scorecards and affordability models. Other responsibilities also include monitoring of credit risk MI, identifying good and bad pockets of credit risk and working with the Business to optimise front and back-end credit risk strategy.  

Lending products include 1st and 2nd charge mortgages, secured motor loans, unsecured personal loans and unsecured home improvement loans.

As a Senior Credit Risk Manager at Tandem your responsibilities will include:  

  • Build, develop, document, monitor and maintain Tandem’s scorecards – across acquisition and account management / behavioural scorecards. These include internal / bespoke scorecards and also monitoring performance of Bureau scorecards.  
  • Build, develop, document, monitor and maintain Tandem’s affordability models - used for affordability assessment as part of underwriting.  
  • Build and develop cost of risk models to ensure credit risk inputs are appropriately fed into product pricing and risk-reward decisions. 
  • Develop credit risk appetite metrics and triggers and credit risk early warning indicators, to ensure appropriate monitoring is in place at credit committee and other senior committees. 
  • Develop front and back-end credit risk strategies, take recommendations to appropriate committees (such as Credit Committee) and seek approval to implement credit strategy enhancements. 
  • Ensure adherence to relevant credit risk policies including model risk governance and lending polices. 
  • Work with Data team to ensure delivery of credit risk data requirements (for credit strategy optimisation etc.).    
  • Produce deep dive analyses for credit committee and other senior committees, and escalate issues along with recommendations / actions as appropriate.  
  • Develop effective relationships with functions across the Bank.  
  • Work with teams across the Business including Risk Measurement teams (responsible for impairment actuals and forecasting), Finance, Data and Product teams to build in impact from front and back-end credit risk strategies in formal Business plans.  
  • Work with external stakeholders including Bureau to ensure availability of appropriate data to build / develop scorecards and optimise front and back-end credit strategies. 
  • Adapt communication style and approach to articulate findings, business impacts and recommendations confidently and effectively, in particular, with respect to written and verbal communication at Heads of, Director and ExCo level.  
  • Build, coach and develop team members with particular focus on ramping up scorecard, affordability models and credit risk analytical skills in the team.   
  • Support the Business on strategics initiatives and lead, as appropriate, on credit risk initiatives with internal and external stakeholders (including Regulatory interactions where appropriate).   
  • Actively promote a positive and strong risk culture across the business. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues across all three lines of defence to support enhanced credit risk governance and control.  

We’d love to hear from you if you have: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in maths / stats, finance, business, economics, or other quantitative field.  
  • Experience: proven experience of building scorecards and affordability models.  
  • Knowledge: good knowledge of consumer credit risk management. 
  • Knowledge: good understanding of mortgage, personal loans and motor finance products. 
  • Knowledge: strong knowledge of front and back-end credit risk optimisation tools and strategies.  
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of programming skills like SAS and SQL.  
  • Time management skills: good time management skills, the ability to effectively prioritise tasks, maintain timelines and manage/plan workloads effectively 
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal with experience of tailoring communication for different audiences  
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to drive decision-making 
  • Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving.  

It would be great, but not essential if you have: 

  • Previous experience of working in Fintech environment. 
  • At least 10 years of banking experience, with most of it being in the credit risk management domain. 
  • Strong understanding of credit risk management principles on mortgages, personal loans, motor finance. 
  • Advanced working knowledge of R/Python
