About the Role:

We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a Director of Electronic Hardware Engineering. This is a key developmental opportunity to perform as Director within a growing business growing personal experience in leadership, product development, and technical expertise. This is a full-time position with a rich compensation package and will report to the Global Director of Hardware Commodity Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In this position, you will be responsible for the leadership of a team of circa 15+ engineers developing power electronics solutions to production and demonstrated certification level. The role will include;

  • Team leadership – developing and growing the team capability and capacity, ensuring the operational safety of your team, providing clear objectives and guidance in order to deliver against the company requirements. Plus, ensuring that the individual development of the team members is progressed.
  • Dissemination of system requirements and development of specific hardware requirements.
  • Developing delivery plans and establishing level of resource, physical test articles, validation testing, certification testing and budget requirements.
  • Expediting delivery to plan – maintain on time progress to budget.
  • Developing clear technical solutions – including definition of PCBs and components, electrical circuits including switches, relays and breakers, physical enclosures and thermal management.
  • Establishing clear and logical validation plans aimed at efficiently demonstrating functionality and reliability of the solution.
  • Collaboration with Procurement and Manufacturing teams from early stages of the project to ensure design for cost and assembly is considered appropriately.
  • Collaboration with Procurement team to source components to support validation activity.
  • Leading and directing the local build of test articles.
  • Collaboration with facility operational teams to define assembly test equipment needs and capital planning.
  • Expediting the validation test plan.
  • Issue tracking and resolution using formal reporting and problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop new tools and techniques to aid efficient delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Collaboration with global stakeholders to exercise synergies where possible and maximise team working across the business.
  • Providing regular clear updates to the business on project and team progress.
  • Traveling domestically and internationally sometimes on short notice.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Exceptional collaboration, communication, and social skills with the ability to effectively work with employees and leaders at all levels.
  • College degree (Bachelor's or higher) with a broad background in the major of electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Prior experience leading teams to successfully deliver against multiple priorities.
  • Ability to influence multi-functional and cross-organizational teams.
  • A minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience in delivering product to production.
  • Extensive experience in the development of HV Battery Energy Storage, HV Propulsion systems or related technologies. the transportation or battery energy storage industry for example Automotive, Power Generation or Aerospace product development.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering from concept to production.
  • A sound understanding of typical planning and budgeting approaches.
  • Preferably V lifecycle and systems engineering.
  • A positive and tenacious attitude.
