About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join the company to define manufacturing process and facilities. Key to success will be the ability to prioritise, operate as part of the project team, mitigate risk via DFM, scope equipment and tests and deliver a controlled product introduction.

 

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will be helping plan new production methods and the resourcing of manufacturing projects for niche volume manufacturing.

The Manufacturing Engineer will define manufacturing and assembly process with efficient, repeatable methods to deliver products that meet cost, quality and reliability targets.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate with Product engineering team from Concept to delivery.
  • Ensure product design and manufacturing process do not compromise product safety.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture principles.
  • Negotiate early design change to deliver process capability.
  • Generate production documentation, BoM, routing, layout, process flow, PFMEA, Standard work & Control plan.
  • Deliver process controls via PFMEA.
  • Identify need for in-line test methods, help document and develop.
  • Publish shop floor layout and workstation definition.
  • Develop design of fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks.
  • Maintain metric on takt.
  • Support problem solving and process improvement activities.

Key Requirements:

Required

  • ONC / BTEC National Diploma or above.
  • Work history of imagining & creating manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to budget & plan manufacturing activities.
  • Educate others in practical lean methodologies.
  • Generation of APQP products in particular PFMEA and actions.
  • Understanding of production cost drivers.
  • Equipment procurement (SoR writing) skills.

Desirable

  • May be from Automotive, Aerospace, Rail, Bus, seeking more scope technically.
  • Mechanical / electrical background.
  • Experience of DFMEA flow-down as part of a project team.
  • Experience of Capex justification, securing funds, delivering new technologies.
  • Experience implementing COSHH controls and PUWER assessments desirable.
  • Experience with battery systems manufacturing methods.
  • HaV training certificate (desirable).
  • Professional accreditation with an industry body (desirable).
  • PUWER assessment experience (desirable).
