Welcome systems thinkers.  System Inc. builds software to help the world see and solve anything as a system. We are a Public Benefit Corporation driven by purpose and shaped by values.  We hire systems thinkers who are motivated by our purpose, share our values, and have the skills to advance our mission.

System was founded by a scientist who cares deeply about design. The design team is led by a data visualization pioneer who believes that System is at the forefront of designing for data.

For this role, we’re looking for a product designer. At System, our product design team works at the nexus of technical feasibility, product value, usability, and delight. We work with a multi-disciplinary team to envision new features and continually improve System’s user experience, at every level. We leverage design thinking to craft usable interfaces and develop visual constructs for abstract scientific concepts. We think systemically to architect solutions that work at scale. Most importantly, we are collaborators who continually learn from our peers, solicit feedback and improve our designs based on the input we gather.

You will:

  • Join a small but growing team that is responsible for the end to end design of the System product
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, engineering, product and data science
  • Help develop and maintain our in-progress product design system
  • Be actively involved with the full design process from early discovery and sketching to polished visual designs and prototypes
  • Design with a broad digital ecosystem in mind (integrations, email, push notifications, etc.)
  • Work in an agile software development environment

You are:

  • A natural systems thinker in design and exhibit a mastery of visual design craft
  • An advocate for our customers and end users and strive to create a positive impact on their lives
  • Obsessed with typographic perfection and grid systems
  • Someone who values clarity, simplicity and elegance in your work
  • Fast but thoughtful, open to feedback and game to revise until we get it right
  • Interested in designing complex experiences that are information and data heavy
  • Self directed and thrives on a good amount of autonomy
  • Confident in your skills but always curious and open to learning
  • A great communicator and collaborator who is always willing to share work in progress
  • Interested in data science and, ideally, passionate about data visualization

You have:

  • 3+ of product or interaction design experience
  • Experience working on a multidisciplinary team to drive business and user success
  • Experience applying design thinking in day to day work to understand your users and redefine problems
  • Experience designing full end to end experiences across a variety of devices and platforms
  • Work that is rule-based in some way that allows it to scale effectively
  • A bachelor’s or master’s design degree (preferred but not required)
  • An online portfolio of work with clear indications of your role in each project
