We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to help expand our growing suite of data and knowledge products. You will be responsible for owning, designing and delivering highly scalable software working along-side a world-class team. This is an ideal role for an experienced engineering leader who is ready to make an impact on the future of data and society.

The Principal Engineer role acts as the individual equivalent of Engineering Director.

You Will:

  • Work cross-departmentally: Collaborate and make proposals across several teams, and help team members make informed decisions in alignment with business strategies
  • Expose technology and organizational needs across the organization
  • Teach, mentor, grow, and advise other domain experts, leaders and individual contributors
  • Play a central role in technical, business, and operational requirements affecting our organization
  • Plan improvements and features with a 6 month view
  • Confidently ship immense or extremely high-impact features and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other members of the organization
  • Solve technical problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity
  • Look for innovation opportunities with a willingness to experiment and to boldly confront problems of large complexity and scope
  • Propose initial technical implementations which support architectural changes that solve scaling and performance problems
  • Guide conversations to remove blockers and encourage collaboration across teams
  • Provide a point of escalation to teams facing complex technical challenges
  • Enable the engineers on the team to apply their skills, creativity and aspirations to the benefit of the organization and to advance their careers
  • Collaborate with cross-organization leaders to strategize, plan and execute on key business strategies
  • Help shape our engineering culture through recruiting, hiring and mentoring
  • Share our values, and work in accordance with those values

You Have:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software development, Python, Go, and Node
  • Extensive experience building complete, production-quality software services that are highly performant over large data sets, with low latency and high availability
  • Been recognized as a technical leader and have an impact beyond the engineering team
  • Passion about setting standard methodologies and raising the bar for systems design, testing, code quality, and maintainability for the entire engineering organization
  • Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions
  • Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems
  • Comfort working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process
  • An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization
  • Ability to thrive in a geographically distributed organization
  • Familiarity working with graph databases is a plus
