About the Opportunity 

Synthesis Health is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer who serves at the intersection of development, operations, IT, security, and support. This position will lead a small DevOps team and will need to have strong leadership skills as well as experience scaling a company 10x, 25x, 100x their current volume. You’ll need strong Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) expertise. Individuals with hands-on experience with migrations with GKE and databases are strongly desired. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Release Engineering. 

  • Designs and implements automated application deployment processes.  
  • Pulls together observability and code to establish and measure Service Level Objectives (SLO) Budgets (SLB) and meet Service Level Agreements (SLA) 
  • Manages development, testing, staging, pre-production and production environments ensuring smooth code transitions between each environment. 
  • Reduces the complexity of the deployment process by automating repetitive tasks, to improve the productivity of the development team. 
  • Selects, develops, and monitors continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) delivery systems. 
  • Oversees software automation across GCP cloud providers.   
  • Containerizes services and managing these containers to optimize resources and improve deployment speed and scalability. 

Infrastructure Provisioning and Management.  

  • Manages and optimizes cloud infrastructure for cost and performance 
  • Deploys and maintains the servers, storage and network resources required to host applications.  
  • Manages internal and external network connectivity.  
  • Optimizes the cloud infrastructure, including configuration, scaling, and security.  
  • Contributes to software architecture, design and development, including code review and feedback around infrastructure as code (IaC).  
  • Automates infrastructure provisioning and management processes, allowing for quicker deployment and efficient scaling of resources. 

Security.  

  • Utilizes industry best security practices to design and implement security measures to protect the platform and data.  
  • Assists with drafting security processes and procedures for the technical teams.  
  • Ensures all systems meet security standards and compliance requirements.  
  • Creates and maintains the disaster recovery plans, ensuring that the company can resume operations quickly in the event of a system failure or data loss. 

SRE Advocacy and Communication.  

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, bridging the gaps between development, operations, and other teams to improve the company’s software delivery speed and reliability. 
  • Creates and maintains internal documentation using Git and Confluence to ensure communication and transparency across the software development team. 

Process Improvement. 

  • Evaluates existing applications and platforms and provides recommendations for improving performance by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions and assisting in scope modifications.  
  • Analyzes resource utilization and costs to find opportunities for optimization, such as adopting more cost-effective infrastructure solutions. 
  • Improves and maintains real-time monitoring systems and alerts to promptly identify and address any issues in the system's performance or security. 

About the Right Candidate

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Previous experience as a Python developer (at least one year) who has transitioned to a site reliability engineer role. 
  • Five years of experience working in software development as a DevOps and/or SRE. 
  • Demonstrated 2 years of experience in an SRE role on a platform running Kubernetes (GKE preferred) at scale. 
  • Experience using ArgoCD for rollouts and deployments is required. 
  • One year experience using a service mesh such as Istio in a GKE environment 
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, Python and automation tools (e.g., Terraform) for efficient deployment and operations. 
  • Solid understanding of and experience implementing security on pipelines, infrastructure, and cloud environments. 
  • Familiarity with achieving compliance for standards like SOC 2, HIPAA, and other security frameworks. 
  • Strong expertise in creating and managing robust CI/CD pipelines. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in the healthcare industry on the technology side is a plus. 
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to quickly resolve problems in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and to communicate across stakeholders with varying technical knowledge.  
  • Experience working in YAML is a plus. 
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  
  • Strong organizational skills.

Compensation and Benefits 

Synthesis Health has a location based compensation plan. Compensation is paid in the currency of the country where the individual resides. Compensation may vary based on locations outside of the United States. For the US, the salary range is $150k – $200k USD commensurate with experience.
