What we’re looking for

The Analyze Reporting team is looking for an Engineering Manager with a passion for solving complex, challenging problems in a constantly evolving ecosystem. In addition to supporting engineers on the team, this manager will be working as part of a trio with product manager and designer to help shape incremental, data-driven solutions.

Our Analyze organization delivers application functionality that empowers our customers with instantaneous, actionable, and understandable insights from their data that can be easily discovered, explored, and shared. Within our Analyze organization, our Reporting team is responsible for our critical data visualization technologies across our entire application. The team is full stack composed of both front and back end developers.

What you’ll be working on

  • Support a team of experienced developers to design, build, and evolve SurveyMonkey’s Analyze experience.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to make sound judgments in complex and dynamic situations. This includes prioritizing tasks, resolving conflicts, and mitigating risks.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and inspire engineering teams. This includes experience in managing and mentoring engineers, providing technical guidance, and fostering a positive team culture.
  • Facilitate career growth for your team members through coaching, frequent feedback, and providing opportunities to develop their strengths and acquire new skills.
  • Work closely with UX designers, product managers, and development team to build new experiences and key functionality.
  • Be a key player in cross-team technical initiatives and collaboration
  • Continuously build and expand your own technical expertise as well as drive excellence in engineering within the team.
  • Hold responsibility for service and uptime SLA’s.
  • Responsible for delivering crucial and time sensitive commitments.

We’d love to hear from people with

  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing an engineering team
  • 3-5+ years of professional programming experience shipping production quality code
  • Experience leading and shipping data-intensive web applications
  • Hands-on knowledge in one of our ecosystem tools (e.g., JavaScript, Node.js, React, Webpack, Storybook, CSS-in-JS, PHP, Java)
  • Passion for promoting best practices and engineering standards, adopting new technologies, and mentoring developers
  • Strong interest in doing code reviews, writing tech specs, collaborating within and across teams, and troubleshooting issues
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders, and facilitating effective communication within the engineering team
  • Ability to work with both co-located and remote engineers across time zones and cross-functional partners 
  • Experience working with cloud technologies, especially within the AWS ecosystem is a plus
  • Data-streaming, B2C, SaaS experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with other technologies such as OpenSearch, Kafka, Python, Docker, GitHub Actions, GraphQL is also a plus
