Summit Public Schools is seeking to hire Summit Learning “Mentors” that will work closely with the Summit Learning Leadership team, Summit Public Schools and Facebook to support our partner schools in adopting and institutionalizing Summit Learning in their districts and CMOs.
As we all know, school change is complex - the factors range from district/CMO policies and politics to team culture and capacity to parent engagement. To support this wide array of needs, we are looking to add even greater diversity of experiences and skillsets onto our mentor team. Prior relevant experience for a mentor may be teaching, leading a school, coaching teachers, leading districts, providing district support and/or leading change management.
The mentor will be a part of the Onboarding and Engagement team - “mentor team”, who will pool its collective skillsets and provide onboarding and engagement support to our cohort of partner schools. The team will design, test and iterate on support structures for our cohort.
Given that we are just two years into the program, we are looking for people who are flexible, action oriented and love to learn new skillsets by practicing them! The team also deeply believes in the power of collaboration because different perspectives and skillsets make us stronger. And they also help to personalize the experience for our partner schools, who all have varying needs.
Mentors will report to the Chief Program Officer and will work on the team to build, oversee and execute all aspects of the Summit Learning program for Cohort 3 as well as vision, build and design the Summit Learning program for Cohort 4.
As mentors will have a diverse and wide range of skill sets - from teaching, school leadership, district leadership, instructional coaching -- compensation will match each candidate’s specific prior experience and skill sets.

Summit is proud to help teachers and students around the country benefit from personalized learning through the Summit Learning Program.Summit Learning is a free program that provides teachers and schools across the U.S. with the resources they need to bring Summit Learning into the classroom. In 2016-17, Summit Public Schools is working closely with more than 130 schools across the country, serving over 20,000 students. Through Summit’s support and resources, and Facebook’s engineering expertise, this community of partner schools is exploring Summit Learning and is adapting it to meet the specific needs of their individual school communities. As part of Summit Learning, grade level teams are also using the Summit Learning Platform as the backbone to their student’s experience.
Summary of Responsibilities:
A Summit Learning Program Manager will have a variety and depth of responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:
- Facilitate a portfolio of schools through adoption of Summit learning and the Summit Learning Platform, which includes partnership and leadership on:
- Change management - school culture change, shifting teaching practices, parent and student engagement
- Data analysis
- Instructional leadership
- Instruction in a PL environment, including skills instruction, self-paced learning
- Building a self-directed learning environment
- Building teams with a mindset of continual improvement
- Partnering with district leaders to clear barriers for schools, build capacity and determine pathways to scale Summit learning within each network
- Work closely with “regional partners” (districts, city-based organizations, etc.) in several of our 15 regional cities to foster a community of practice through sharing best practices, lessons learned, data analysis, strategic leadership decision making and shared professional development.
- Work with the Facebook engineering team to refine and collect feedback and usage of the PLP tool to help us strengthen the PLP platform
- Travel to and lead summer trainings and regional conferences for Summit Learning school leaders and teachers across the country
- Codify lessons learned and school’s process for change to allow us to better scale our program support to a larger number of schools in Cohort 4
- Design and build the Cohort 4 program experience
- Support recruitment of Cohort 4 applicants
- Act as Summit Learning spokespeople to schools, districts, funders, thought leaders and potential Cohort 4 applicants (at conferences, events, visits, etc.)

- Coaching - Our partner schools are eager and excited to do this work. How do we provide the right support and coaching to grow the skillset and instill confidence in our school leaders and teachers?
- Data Analysis - Data helps us know how to focus our energy and time!
- Strategic Planning - We all have 24 hours in a day, so it isn’t about just working hard, it’s about developing a strategy to hit an outcome. Looking for people who want to grow in this skill of strategy.
- Progress Monitoring - Just like we monitor and allocate resources accordingly to various buckets of students, that skill is key when managing so many different workstreams and schools
- Strategic Communication - People are inundated with messages every single day. How do we leverage our communication channels and tailor our messages to ensure what we mean is being heard and received? How do you use communication to effectively influence others?
- Systematic Innovation - We are working with large, small, medium sized districts and CMOs across many different states. It is key that our schools learn how to continually improve
- Collaboration - We do this work together. We design the program together. We support schools together. Learning how to be together is pretty key to being on the mentor team.
- Vision - You internalize and know how to effectively communicate and inspire others
