Research Director, Alumni Pathways

Position Overview

Summit Public Schools is seeking an experienced Research Director to lead a special research project studying the pathways our alumni take after high school graduation.  This role will lie on Summit’s Analytics team. It will be a temporary role with a 6 month duration.

The Alumni Pathways Project will gather data from the National Student Clearinghouse, Cal-PASS, alumni surveys, and interviews in order to better understand the lives of our alumni after high school. The goals of the project are to better understand Summit’s long-term impact and the barriers our alumni face. 

The Research Director will lead all data collection and analysis for this project, working closely with the Chief Information Officer, other members of the Analytics team, and the College Readiness Team. They will also recruit and manage a team of Summit alumni to help facilitate qualitative data collection.

The ideal candidate is experienced in collecting and analyzing data using a variety of tools and techniques, both qualitative and quantitative. They should be an excellent project manager and strong communicator, able to work effectively with stakeholders to achieve high-quality outcomes. Content knowledge in college readiness and workforce development, as well as strong writing skills, are a plus.

What You’ll Do:

 

Qualitative and Quantitative Study Design

  • Deeply internalize the study’s research questions and hypotheses, including how those are informed by Summit’s unique approach, and own their development and framing
  • Draw on existing research and best practices to develop surveys and interview protocols
  • Identify gaps in pre-existing data sources and make plans to fill them
  • Develop a project plan for data collection and analysis and win buy-in for the plan from all stakeholders

Data Collection

  • Lead survey administration and qualitative data collection
  • Recruit and manage a team of Summit alumni to assist in collecting survey and interview data from their peers
  • Pull quantitative data from Summit’s existing alumni data warehouse and extend it using new sources such as Cal-PASS

Data Analysis

 

  • Identify key trends and findings from the data in line with the study’s research questions and hypotheses

 

  • Combine quantitative and qualitative data to paint a robust picture of Summit’s alumni pathways
  • Draft reports and whitepapers to share findings with the field at large

What You Need:

Key Qualities and Skills 

  • Commitment to uphold Summit’s values, belief that all children deserve a rigorous and equitable education that prepares them for college and for life
  • Bachelor’s Degree (a Master’s Degree in Education or a qualitative research field is preferred but not required) 
  • Experience in education, including K-12 and higher ed
  • Ability to analyze and assess quantitative and qualitative data
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, communication and presentation skills, especially in presenting data to different audiences.
