The Charter Management Organization (CMO) Improvement Project Lead will manage Summit Public Schools engagement with a Networked Improvement Community of 10 CMOs with technical assistance from Marshall Street Initiatives focused on improving outcomes for Students with Disabilities (SWD). 

This individual will lead an ongoing improvement effort starting at 2 schools at Summit Public Schools to engage educators to identify root causes, introduce practices designed to better support Students with Disabilities and measure their impact through regular cycles of inquiry. They will work closely with network improvement leaders and CMO site-based leadership to train educators, monitor and react to data, and execute on priorities and improvement cycles focused on the needs of this population. They will manage Summit Public Schools’s engagement and collaboration with the broader network and represent Summit Public Schools at network events. This role will report to the Superintendent of Schools.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and refine a local Theory of Action (aligned with the Network’s larger framework) for improving academic outcomes for SWD applying evidence-based best practices and high-leverage strategies to the identified needs of Summit Public School’s target population
  • Develop and refine a local project plan for the work that establishes clear metrics for success and progress monitoring, support for implementation, and collaboration across stakeholders that is agreed upon by the Superintendent of Schools with support from Marshall Street technical assistance providers. 
  • Lead regular meetings with project sponsors and CMO stakeholders to ensure alignment to other initiatives and priorities, share successes and data, clear barriers to the work, and plan for scale and spread of best practices. 
  • Ensure the healthy functioning of improvement work at Summit Public Schools, organizing and facilitating site-based improvement cycles at Summit Public School’s 2 focal schools coordinated with the site-based faculty and Summit’s Special Education team.
  • Ensure functional local data collection and analysis for the project with the support of network technical assistance and the CMO data lead; share data collected with CMO stakeholders in accessible and compelling ways
  • Contribute to CMO professional development on continuous improvement processes and best practices for SWD 
  • Build capacity for continuous improvement and problem-solve through regular 1-1 coaching check-ins with a Marshall Improvement Advisor and engage in collaborative professional development with the network’s other Improvement Leads.
  • Coordinate learning structures such as site visits and improvement reviews between the CMO Improvement Team and network technical assistance providers. 
  • Ensure the CMO is well-represented at in-person network convenings to report on activities, share learning, spread best practices, and contribute to network knowledge products.
  • Appraise progress, prepare for end-of-year network wrap-up, and prepare for re-launch the initiative in 2021-22.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (a Master’s Degree in Education is preferred but not required)
  • Clear health and background check, per education code
  • Teaching and/or school leadership experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience working directly with Students with Disabilities (SWD) population (as a resource specialist or similar position) is strongly preferred
  • Deep commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Project management experience (preferred)
  • A track record of academic success and a commitment to education reform.
  • Ability to travel to school sites and network events for convenings, site visits, professional development, observations, etc.
  • Ability to provide honest, actionable and timely feedback that results in improved performance.
  • Highly organized and able to meet deadlines.
  • Trust of the project sponsor and credibility within the CMO.
