The Role

As the Striveworks Controller, you will be responsible for all operational and technical controllership aspects of the business.  As a growing start-up, the business requires a candidate that can take on a diverse set of areas within the controllership function.  This includes both key technical interpretations regarding commercial/contractual development of the business but also manage the day to day volume of business transactions.  The candidate will work closely with the business CFO to optimize efficiency of all finance responsibilities as well as the rest of the Business Operations team to provide optimal service to the wider business and external stakeholders. 

Detailed aspects of the role are as follows:

  • Responsible for key technical accounting decision making and subsequent implementation.
  • Responsible for writing key accounting memos for key areas of the business. These include but are not limited to customer contract revenue recognition, software platform capitalization, company funding events, and leases.
  • Responsible for coordinating ownership of annual Federal and state tax filing process with external tax firm and performing required analysis.
  • Responsible for overall balance sheet and income statement integrity and accuracy.
  • Responsible for executing on the monthly contract invoice process and monthly vendor payables process.
  • Responsible for maintaining tools and systems that support both customer invoice and vendor payables process as business undergoes accelerated growth profile.
  • Proactively think about continued finance process improvement to ensure the above responsibilities work efficiently and effectively in a growing business.
  • Work closely with the CFO to ensure key deliverables are completed in a dynamic environment through responsibility sharing and collaborative ownership.

  • Comfort in a dynamic work environment that requires diverse job responsibilities including both technical accounting and operational accounting experience.
  • Comfort in taking a role that combines “leading” and “doing” at the same time.
  • Familiarity with US GAAP, ASC 606, ASC 985, ASC 842, ASC 718.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulations and DFAR supplement.
  • Active CPA
  • Experience working in financial ERPs; Microsoft Business Central a plus
  • Willing to operate in dynamic start up environment where daily deliverables involve range of tasks including everything from posting journal entries, to performing reconciliations, to thinking critically about how to account for newly signed revenue generating contract
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
