About this role
We are looking for a privacy counsel to join our legal team in our San Francisco or Denver office. You will be a good fit for this role if privacy is a passion for you. The team is seeking someone who enjoys working cross-functionally, wants to be heavily involved in the product-planning and implementation process, and who wants to be at the forefront of continuing to develop the trust relationship we have with our members. As Strava’s second lawyer, you will be called on to be involved in a variety of other interesting legal projects.
You should have functional knowledge of existing privacy regulations, including GDPR, FTC guidelines, etc., and want to develop your knowledge base as new laws develop. You should enjoy both short term and long term projects. To be successful in this role, you should be familiar with our industry and the nature of its data processing activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of privacy-by-design strategies across the company, including taking our features from planning through implementation, including copy/content, maintenance and support.
- Work cross-functionally to assess potential privacy risks and implement regulatory requirements.
- Review/draft agreements, including vendor and data protection agreements.
- Draft and maintain privacy and data policies and processes.
- Lead privacy compliance, including international frameworks.
- Manage outside privacy counsel in the US and internationally.
- Continue to develop organizational awareness of our approach to privacy regulation.
- Ensure third party vendors comply with all relevant privacy laws, including required vendor audits.
- J.D. and admission to California Bar or the ability to practice in-house in California or Colorado.
- CIPP preferred
- 5+ years of experience, with at least 2 years of focus in privacy, including prior in-house or law firm experience.
- Passion for and strong understanding and experience with international privacy laws, and a desire to learn more.
- Self-motivated team player with the ability to learn and act quickly, identify and resolve legal and business issues concisely, drive projects and earn the confidence of the partners you work with across all levels of the organization.
- You have high standards, strong communication skills, impeccable integrity, unquestionably good judgment, strong analytical skills and a keen sense of humor.
- A detail-oriented, business-friendly team player who can think creatively.
- In-house experience at a multinational, consumer-facing technology company is strongly preferred.
- Experience interfacing with state/federal agencies and international regulatory bodies helpful.
