Job purpose:

The Strategic Country Manager DACH reports into the President of Europe and has overall responsibility for managing the STEM business in Germany, including developing the local Project Director and Manager teams, growing the business through effective business development and delivering quality projects. The projects tend to be for global Pharmaceutical organisations with main focus on the German market, as well as local Pharmaceutical organisations. Ultimately, the SCM is accountable for driving revenue growth and margin improvement in collaboration with the commercial and operational teams.

Job Role: 

Customer Focus

  • Responsibility for P&L including business development and project delivery
  • Clear focus on Business Development especially winning new client, managing key stakeholders within current clients and growing existing business, maintaining current business and supporting STEM launch into new verticals within the healthcare sector
  • STEM’s wide-ranging and innovative business model allows exposure to senior leadership team across the top Pharma companies, and the opportunity to engage with the Management Board of Directors
  • Oversee the expansion of our product footprint across key strategic customers within market
  • Responsible for seamless operational delivery of the German Project Management team
  • Required to ensure the output of German projects meets the STEM quality expectation
  • Liaise both externally with clients and internally with STEM stakeholders
  • Responsible for seamless operational delivery to represent the STEM GmbH (e.g. legal, HR, finance) both externally with clients and internally with STEM Head office and the team in Germany
  • Responsible for developing and executing strategic leadership within the DACH regional business
  • Key member of the Region EU Leadership Team

Team Focus

  • Leadership responsibilities for a team of Project Directors & Project Managers
  • Run monthly Business Reviews with Direct Reports
  • Regular coaching sessions with 1st level reports
  • Ensure all staff have annual appraisals and clear objective setting

  • Ensure accounts are prioritised, mapped, and owned

Essential Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant area (for example Business Studies / Life Sciences)
  • Advanced business degree is a plus (e.g. MBA/Certificates)
  • Will be based in Germany
  • Significant experience of driving local BD, delivering STEM projects, and managing key stakeholders within Germany and globally
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical market in Switzerland and/or Austria is a plus
  • In house Pharma roles as Sales Director, Marketing Director, Business Unit Director or General Manager with sufficient management and leadership experience/ capability in sales and marketing
  • Additional Consultancy experience within Pharma is desirable, but not essential
  • Ability to network at high levels, and be credible when interacting with senior individuals within client companies is essential
  • Results-focused but very good interpersonal skills to win business while appearing relaxed
  • Ambitious, ability to work independently but a good team player with good leadership skills
  • Gravitas and interpersonal awareness to interact, challenge, advise and deliver solutions
  • Advanced communication skills to operate at senior leadership level with pharma clients
  • Team management & Leadership experience at a senior level with advanced coaching skills
  • Budget responsibility upwards of 3m Euros turnover in previous roles is essential
  • Previous experience of working in global pharma organisations and collaboration with European/Global teams or own international work experience is preferable
