Rapidly growing life sciences technology company
Ultima Genomics is a rapidly growing company that is developing ground-breaking genomics technologies. Our mission is to continuously drive the scale of genomic information to enable unprecedented advances in biology and improvements in human health. We have developed a foundational new approach to sequencing at scale that overcomes limitations due to the high costs of current technologies. We are well-funded and have raised approximately $600 million from global top-tier investors. Our team brings together unique and diverse expertise across multiple disciplines, from healthcare and life sciences, to engineering, to technology and software and beyond. We are a collaborative group of more than 350 employees, including successful entrepreneurs, chemists, hardware and software engineers, genomics and biotechnology experts, molecular and computational biologists, software and algorithm experts, and operations and commercial leaders. Join us to develop and commercialize technologies that unleash the power of genomics at scale and empower the future of human health.
We are looking for a highly motivated Systems Engineer to join our team!
This engineer will be contributing to the development, testing, and deployment of cutting-edge instrumentation as part of a rapidly growing organization.
How You’ll Contribute
- Characterize performance of hardware modules and sub-components such as motion stages, controls and electronics and thermal control systems.
- Design and execute system-level test plans, identify potential design improvements, run tests to measure their impact and drive their adoption across various development teams.
- Design system and sub-system level specifications utilizing knowledge of statistics and data analysis to develop easy to understand pass/fail criteria that correctly identify outliers and poor instrument health.
- Establish a high-level understanding of tool operation and the interfaces between systems and sub-systems across optical, electrical, mechanical and software domains.
- Utilize high level-level understanding to guide design improvements and to provide troubleshooting and repair support for engineering and customer tools.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- BS/MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field.
- 1-3 years of experience.
- Experience in the development of scientific instruments from a systems integration perspective is strongly preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting instrument mechanical, electrical and software issues.
- Experience using voltmeter and oscilloscope to troubleshoot electrical connections or PCBs.
- Must be able to interpret technical documentation and schematics (Electrical, Wiring, Fluidic, and mechanical drawings).
- Experience writing scripts in Python for parsing instrument logs and data analysis.
- Must be able to build prototypes from preliminary drawings and schematics.
- Meticulous and detail oriented.
- Able to define and follow complex operating procedures.
