About this position:
The successful individual will conceive and develop advanced techniques for MAC through transport layers of the network stack for Starry’s broadband internet systems. Starry uses its own millimeter wave broadband technology, fiber optic and a variety of other technologies. Success in this position requires technical acumen, drive, inquisitiveness, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
What You’ll Do:
- Analyze current performance metrics of Starry's service offering.
- Research novel communications solutions and optimizations to improve Starry’s customer experience.
- Simulate and analyze the effectiveness of your ideas, using NS3 or other tools.
- Develop custom simulation tools where needed to close gaps in third party offerings.
- Prototype your designs in lab settings, including our full system lab, and in controlled field experiments.
- Collaborate with other internal and external engineering teams to realize the performance improvements you have identified.
- Master of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline
- Proficiency with C++, Python & Linux
- Proficiency with networking hardware (e.g. routers, servers) and software in a lab environment.
- Experience with 802.11 or similar systems at the protocol level.
- Experience with RF concepts and lab equipment (e.g. conducted RF, spectrum analyzers).
- Experience designing and developing networking systems at the protocol level.
- Experience with TCP acceleration techniques (e.g. proxying, QUIC).
