Who we’re looking for: 

Starry is seeking an experienced Wireless Field System Engineer to join our growing and Happy Interneting team. Starry is developing and operating advanced mm-wave Network Elements all the way from infrastructure to consumer electronics, and you will lead their early application! You will design, plan, automate, and assess real world performance. You should be excited about bringing new communication technology to life!

To succeed in this challenging position, you will likely have had success designing and implementing fixed wireless network backhaul or front haul systems, outdoor WiFi or DAS systems. Plus, be a modest subject matter expert on WiFi, and have a deep and broad understanding of wireless data networking for the internet.


What you’ll do:

  • Take advanced mm Wave and other products from development to broad deployment
  • Design field test cases to prove out advanced gear
  • Create and develop automated test software for functional and performance testing
  • Design configuration tools to enable rapid deployment
  • Apply propagation theory, cellular theory, RF Engineering tools and antenna theory to choose antenna and equipment placement
  • Design and validate RF link performance, quality, and reliability
  • Apply statistical techniques to large performance data sets
  • Form new friendships in the community while you build out a high performing network
  • Train market personnel using the knowledge you have learned in early trials, and feed back improvements to the development team
  • Provide skeletons of documentation to our technical writer team for their, and supervise that into useful manual content
  • Travel up to 25% to support remote trials
  • Project manage trials and evaluations from engineering field-ready prototype to hand off to deployment team


Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related engineering technical field
  • Minimum 5-year working experience in wireless networking applications
  • CCNP Wireless or equivalent
  • Knowledge or experience in 802.11x protocols desired
  • Understanding of networking protocols and techniques: Bridging, VLAN, NAT, routing, TCP/IP, DHCP, SSL, HTTP/HTTPS
  • Current certifications in Microsoft, Cisco, Aruba, HP or equivalent is a Major plus (CCNA, CWNA, CCNP, CWNP)
  • Fundamental RF Communication and DC Power Systems knowledge 
  • Linux Bash scripting and Python programming for networking, data capture and analysis
  • Not afraid of heights, and ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and enjoyment of communication
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position such as standing, bending, or sitting for the duration of your shift
  • Elementary waterfall project management skill
