Software Engineer (Contract)

Starfish Neuroscience is working to advance the science and engineering of brain interfaces. Basic and clinical neuroscience has shown how targeted modulation of brain activity patterns can create precise changes in physiology, affect, or cognition. We see that this ability can be harnessed to treat a wide range of conditions, from movement disorders to mood disorders and from poor sleep to chronic pain. Our mission is to build the foundational technology for safe, flexible, and reliable neuromodulation and to deploy that technology as precision therapies, easily available to the people who need them.

We are seeking an experienced software engineer for a contract role. We are interested in candidates who are able to work both independently and collaboratively, who have deep expertise in their domain and broad curiosity and skills beyond, and who have demonstrated technical or professional excellence.

  • Design, development, and maintenance of software systems that interface with experimental hardware to ensure seamless and efficient data collection.
  • Collaboration with the research team to understand specific needs and translate them into functional software requirements.
  • Implementation and optimization of software for real-time data acquisition, processing, and visualization.
  • Development, testing, and optimization of data analysis pipelines to process neuroimaging and electrophysiological data.
  • Ensurance of data integrity, security, and compliance with industry and internal standards.
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation of software designs, codebases, and user guides.
  • Engaging in code reviews, debugging, and software testing to ensure the reliability and robustness of software tools and systems.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
  • Minimum of 5 of experience in software development, preferably in a research or medical setting.
  • Experience interfacing with hardware for data acquisition.
