About the Role:
The Senior Director, Translational Bioinformatics will build strong translational bioinformatics capabilities to advance targeted oncology programs that are in discovery and in the clinic for SpringWorks Therapeutics. They will provide scientific, strategic, technical, and managerial leadership in collaboration with our Discovery Biology, Translational Research and Clinical teams. As a senior member of the Translational R&D team reporting to the Senior Vice President of Biology & Translational Medicine, the candidate will foster a culture of scientific excellence, rigorous innovation, and teamwork!
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop translational bioinformatics strategy, set priorities, and implement them for targeted Oncology programs in discovery and in the clinic.
- Lead the development, deployment and application of novel algorithms, analyses, and pipelines with translational impact for targeted Oncology programs.
- Perform and supervise the analysis, visualization, and interpretation of large, complex datasets from Oncology clinical trials and nonclinical studies, including use of modern NGS platforms.
- Partner with the Translational Research and Clinical teams to develop biomarker testing strategies, collaborate on genomic biomarker identification, and advance mechanistic understanding of drug response and resistance.
- Effectively manage CROs and assessment of analytical pipelines for discovery and clinical Oncology programs.
- Build and lead a team of bioinformaticians for the design, delivery and validation of novel methods, algorithms, and pipeline analysis.
- Author and review translational research sections in regulatory documents and scientific publications
- Establish collaborations with external scientific community and KOLs in the field
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
About You: Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- Education: PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related life-sciences field.\
- 12+ years of industry experience in pharma, biotech, or research organization with direct experience in the field of computational biology and/or bioinformatics.
- Experience working in Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine teams and successfully leveraging Oncology data from both internal data and large-scale open databases and integrating it to mine for deeper biomarker insights.
- Demonstrated track record of productivity and scientific innovation via publications, patents, and presentations at conferences.
- Proven track record delivering impactful science through bioinformatics innovation: developing custom algorithms for NGS-based genomic datasets and identifying Oncology biomarkers for patient stratification, drug response, drug resistance and mechanism of action.
- Experience with standard commercial and open-source bioinformatics tools and software including the use of programming tools: java, Scala, R, Linux, Perl, Python, and web development tools. Also experience with high performance computing and cloud computing platforms needed.
- Demonstrated experience of leading a bioinformatics team by hiring, coaching and motivating team members.
- Outstanding communication skills, especially of conclusions from large, complex datasets, and excellent ability to engage, influence and navigate senior stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively collaborate, including remotely, in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- This position must be able to work East Coast hours.
- Ability to travel occasionally (>15%).
