We are seeking an experienced Failure Analysis Engineer to work in partnership Turbo e-bike Quality team to deliver the absolute best cycling experience to Specialized riders around the world. In this role, you will be based on the Specialized Warranty and Service Center in Arnhem, Netherlands and you will work on behalf of our battery pack supplier to rapidly analyze, diagnose, and resolve battery pack issues reported from the field.

The role will require some travel around Europe (up to 20%) and periodic travel to the suppliers sites in Taiwan and China when possible.  


Field Issue Confirmation and Re-creation

  • Partner with customer service teams to identify emerging customer complaints, trends, and key issues related to ebike battery packs
  • Confirm and work with service technicians to reproduce reported field issues and ensure data quality

Failure Analysis

  • In partnership with Supplier Engineering teams, Specialized product engineering, and Quality, conduct root cause analysis into battery pack failures.
  • Coordinate across battery pack supplier, Specialized, and external labs as needed to perform analysis and experimental design to test theories.
  • Work with the cross-functional teams to validate root cause theories and corrective actions

Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Sustaining Engineering and Supplier Quality to drive continuous improvement programs to improve overall battery pack safety and reliability.
  • Conduct component tear-downs and assessments to identify potential weakness or weak points for failure prediction and design continuous improvement


  • Strong demonstrable experience with electrical test equipment: Power Supplies, Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, and other common measurement equipment
  • Extensive experience with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering, and instrumentation
  • Proficient at reading schematics and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits
  • Experience in test development, DoE
  • Familiarity with basic failure analysis techniques including 2D and 3D X-Ray, Cross Sectioning, SEM, and Thermography
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese required, Dutch or German as a plus.
  • Electrical design experience a strong plus
  • CAD experience a strong plus
  • Familiarity with e-bikes or similar micromobility systems is a plus. Love of bikes is a definite plus!
