SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

MANUFACTURING ENGINEER, SITE FABRICATION

The Falcon team tackles space exploration’s toughest problems through the ongoing development of our reusable launch vehicles, Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. These vehicles are currently responsible for delivering commercial, national security, and NASA satellites into orbit, as well as vital cargo and science payloads to the ISS. In addition, Falcon sent the first astronauts to the ISS on an American-made rockets since the retirement of the Space Shuttle and launched the world's first all-civilian orbital mission. These vehicles are instrumental in extending humanity’s reach to the moon, Mars, and beyond.

As a manufacturing engineer, you will spearhead the fabrication of structures, fluid systems, and other launch site components that must withstand the extreme loads and harsh environment of a launch environment. You will work alongside engineers and technicians owning the fabrication process from design input to proof test/activation. You have strong technical and interpersonal skills and you thrive in a creative, scrappy, and collaborative environment in which the best ideas change company-level direction on a regular basis.

You do not need to meet 100% of the preferred qualifications to be considered. We encourage anyone who meets the basic qualifications and is interested in the role to apply – we are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated people to join our team, and want the opportunity to talk to you!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the engineering aspects of fabrication, assembly and testing of structural, mechanical, and fluid system components for our Falcon and Falcon Heavy launch sites.
  • Coordinate daily with technicians and fabricators to resolve in-field issues.
  • Lead manufacturing readiness reviews and drive the project to maintain schedules.
  • Serve as technical interface between customers/suppliers and fabricators in the field.
  • Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception, design, activation and maintenance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly and/or testing (can be in a professional, academic, entrepreneurial, or hobby setting)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in structural steel fab/erection, industrial process piping, mechanical assembly and/or maintenance engineering plans
  • Experience with at least one commercial CAD software(NX preferred) for drawing production and model review
  • Demonstrated ability to own hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team outside a classroom setting (FSAE, Engineers without Borders, Design-Build-Fly, NASA student launch, personal entrepreneurial ventures, etc.)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg Air Force Base
  • Able to work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs.
  • Willingness to travel in support of hardware test and launch.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

Manufacturing Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Manufacturing Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
