SR. COUNSEL, PRIVACY & SECURITY
The Sr. Privacy and Security Counsel will focus on SpaceX’s global Starlink broadband internet business. You will serve as the legal representative on cross-functional teams for managing compliance with complex global data protection and data security laws and best practices, lawful intercept and other local law enforcement issues, other information governance processes, and related regulatory issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advise on and manage compliance with data privacy and data security laws and regulations in markets where we operate around the world
- Develop program for and manage incident/breach responses
- Work closely on data management compliance issues with other in-house teams, including Customer Success and IT Security
- Advise on lawful intercept, data storage, data production, network security and other requirements pertaining to law enforcement and telecommunications regulatory agencies
- Monitor and share best practices and trends on legal issue regarding information governance and cybersecurity
- Respond to inquiries from privacy and security regulators
- Communicate, educate and train employees on privacy and security issues
- Negotiate data privacy and security provisions with suppliers, partners, and enterprise customers
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- JD from an ABA accredited school
- 7+ years of legal experience at a law firm or as in-house counsel
- Experience with privacy and cybersecurity requirements internationally
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Telecommunications and/or ISP law experience
- Significant knowledge of and experience with establishing and managing global privacy and security compliance regime, and lawful intercept programs
- Experience working with IT and information security teams on programs, policies and processes
- Experience with telecommunications and/or internet service providers, on such issues and other related telco regulatory issues
- Ability to identify technical infrastructure requirements to enable privacy compliance and implement privacy-by-design
- Experience managing outside counsel to meet business needs within tight budgets
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bar certified and in good standing in at least one U.S. State
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Sr. Counsel, Privacy and Security: $220,000.00 - $260,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
