SR. SUPPLY DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

The Sr. Supply Development Engineer will focus on lifestyle products for our global accessories and merchandise team at SpaceX. Its a unique, multifaceted role with an opportunity to work directly with design teams on new and innovative products that will be available to customers at a rapid pace. 

This team is responsible for the overall shop business with focus on the development, lifecycle and launches. Broad knowledge of product engineering, product development, supply chain, e-commerce management and material planning/distribution is critical along with the strong ability to collaborate, ensuring best-in-class lifestyle products are developed and launched according to our product roadmap.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and maintain a product roadmap for a variety of hardware products
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to gain an in-depth knowledge piece part, assembly, and/or sub-system design intent
  • Support procurement to strategically source parts matched with supplier competencies by reviewing and assessing supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Create and define supplier technical and quality requirements based on customer and program requirements and expectations
  • Work with designers though development and feasibility process to see products through to production
  • Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risk and potential defect opportunities
  • Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and pinpoint systemic performance gaps and root causes to drive supplier improvement plans
  • Demonstrate innovation, technical excellence, attention to detail, self-direction, and courage 
  • Drive for results and customer satisfaction 
  • Collaborate with teams, lead projects, and continuously drive improvement in the supply base
  • Lead market research, customer feedback and competitive diligence and analysis to build market and product requirements, documentation and inform engineering efforts
  • Work with teams including design, engineering, digital, legal, finance, supply chain, customer support and operations to deliver a seamless product experience
  • Collaborate with supply chain network to prospect, select and configure product and sub-product manufacturers which meet product intent, capacity, quality and compliance requirements
  • Execute all release and administrative workstreams related to launching and maintaining engineered products on the accessory store
  • Create and drive continuous architectural improvements on the business’s platforms, workstreams and processes to maintain operational excellence
  • Define a set of metrics to measure customer satisfaction and product performance, and use these to analyze and make future decisions around the lifecycle of product portfolio
  • Perform duties that support ongoing shop needs including customer service, inventory, and internal distribution for existing store capabilities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s in an engineering discipline, product management, or business
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, product development and shipping products

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline, product management, or business
  • Demonstrated ability to execute many projects and tasks in parallel, across teams, in a short timeframe with the ability to pivot rapidly
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with ability to use data and metrics for making assumptions and decisions
  • Proven success of converting learnings from customer insights into tangible product features that achieve customer satisfaction 
  • Passion about working with other businesses and partners to solve their specific challenges while putting customer trust and experience first
  • Entrepreneurial instincts with urgency for informed action and track record of leading new initiatives with limited resources and support
  • Excellent written and verbal communications across technical and non-technical stakeholders

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong visual and metrics-based portfolio is mandatory for consideration
  • This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Supply Development Engineer/Senior: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
