ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY SPECIALIST – BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS
- Ensure environmental compliance with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including the Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping manifest and tracking of hazardous waste shipments
- Perform weekly storm water inspections per the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
- Enforce Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulatory hazardous waste handling requirements
- Manage spill response and prevention activities
- Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits
- Perform other environmental tasks as assigned
- Health and Safety
- Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards, and unsafe conditions
- Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards
- Assist in the implementation and compliance of site specific safety policies
- Coordinate with the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager and Lead to develop and implement new safety policies as required
- Assist in the creation of job hazard analyses
- Conduct and/or coordinate employee safety and environmental training programs and assist with emergency response training drills
- Perform safety surveys using inspection forms to ensure employees are utilizing safe work practices such as utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), minimizing trip hazards, wearing fall protection, etc.
- Conduct daily health and safety oversight
- Assist with accident/mishap investigations when necessary
- Construction Field Contact Representative
- Overseeing construction related compliance, with the assistance of SpaceX management
- Ensuring implementing project Special Conservation Measures (SCMs) (from 2014 FEIS).
- Providing worker-education briefings
- Procedures to limit the spread of noxious weeds
- Monitoring Construction Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
- Activating our Cultural Resources Unanticipated Discovery Plan procedure, if needed
- Oversee contract security guard force
- Monitor access control units and cameras
- Respond to safety and security incidents and complete reports as required
- Maintain appropriate liaison with law enforcement and attend meetings as necessary
- 3+ years of experience implementing and overseeing environmental, health and safety policies
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with field ecology
- Experience implementing/developing health and safety plans and policies
- Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil and water
- Ability to work in a construction/industrial environment
- Ability to communicate well with technicians and engineers
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience
- Experience with video management, access control, incident reporting, and other security system software
- The ability to work in a high-concentration, fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift at least 30 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime when necessary
- Position is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing
