The SPLC is seeking a Program Manager who is committed to supporting and expanding our democracy!


The Program Manager, Strengthening Democracy Initiative will support the SPLC in coordinating the organization’s Strengthening Democracy Initiative which aims to engage voters and tear down the barriers to voting and civic engagement in the Deep South in both the short- and long-term to create a multi-racial representative democracy. The Program Manager will help lead the next phase of the Strengthening Democracy Initiative, which builds upon the organization’s midterm democracy campaign, which was targeted to engage youth and low-propensity voters in registering and voting during the 2022 midterm elections. The Program Manager will coordinate and facilitate collaboration among internal stakeholders and external partners to develop an integrated advocacy strategy and work plan that incorporates work across several SPLC departments to advance an aligned democracy and civic engagement agenda.

 

Who You Are

Experienced. Program Manager with demonstrated experience designing and executing issue-based campaigns – preferably in the democracy space. Experience working with key stakeholders at the grassroots, governmental and administrative levels and coalitions.

Communicative. Ability to confidently communicate in writing and verbally across lines of differences. Clearly and effectively present to partnering departments at SPLC and stakeholders.

Innovative and Strategic. Ability to be a strategic, forward thinker who actively seeks opportunities, identifies problems and presents resources and solutions.

Efficient. Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Comfortable with managing up and delegating work while working in a fast-paced environment.

Collaborative. Demonstrated ability to work with internal departments as well as external organizations, stakeholders, and communities to execute specific strategies to advance the Strengthening Democracy Initiative's goals.

Mission, Vision & Culture Alignment. Demonstrated awareness for SPLC's mission and vision; and a commitment to ideals of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion and fostering an anti-racist work culture and antiracist principles and learning.

What You'll Do

Lead creation and development of both short and long-term initiative strategies and tactics to achieve the initiative’s goal of strengthening democracy in coordination with the SPLC leadership and staff.

Liaise across internal departments to ensure the work of the initiative is integrated, coordinated and not duplicated.

Engage with SPLC staff and local stakeholders in the SPLC's priority states, including Vote Your Voice, to identify gaps and needs to inform the work of the initiative.

Develop partnerships with outside consultants, as needed, to move forward initiative goals.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices, therefore you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience launching and managing issue-based campaigns, with a preference for experience in issue-based campaigns related to democracy building work;
  • Experience working with key stakeholders at the grassroots, governmental, and administrative levels; and
  • High school diploma or GED.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a non-exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $62,332.00 ($29.97 per hour) annually.

Where & How You'll Work 

This role the following work designations options:

  • Local Remote: Will work remotely, but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.
  • Telework: Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.

Other Special Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
