What you'll do:
We are seeking a Sr. Manager, Accounting to own and manage accounting operations including the month-end close process. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a solid technical accounting knowledge to ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP. The Sr. Manager, Accounting plays a crucial role in producing financial statements for internal and external stakeholders and creating robust and scalable accounting and internal control processes. We are looking for a candidate who is highly organized, self-motivated, and a problem solver. They should be collaborative and capable of independently executing their responsibilities.
This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is based in our Emeryville, CA headquarters on a hybrid schedule (in office 2-3 days per week).
Compensation Target:
$150,000 to 157,000 base salary
Bonus target 10%
Bonuses are earned based on annual company and individual performance and are prorated based on start date.

Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including accounts payable/receivable, revenue recognition, cash payments/receipts, fixed assets, general ledger, etc.
- Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all transactions incurred are recorded in compliance with US GAAP, reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations, and report preparation
- Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage the payroll process and work with HR to ensure accurate benefits, commissions and bonuses are paid
- Establish and monitor compliance of financial and accounting policies and procedures, including researching and implementing new financial standards and accounting policy changes
- Coordinate and manage the Sound’s annual financial audits and tax returns
- Oversee team and manage team of two full-time staff accountants. Hire and train new staff as necessary
- Assist FP&A team with budgeting, forecasting, budget to actual reporting processes
- Support the Chief Financial Officer with special projects and workflow process improvements
Targeted Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or similar experience, CPA preferred
- Experience and training from an accounting firm; or experience managing the accounting / controllership functions
- Extensive knowledge of US GAAP
- Must have strong spreadsheet skills including writing macros
- Experience with consolidations, foreign currencies, and IFRS a plus
- Systems:
- Proficiency with accounting software systems, such as QuickBooks Online and Bill.com
- Experience reporting and extracting data from Salesforce strongly preferred
- Knowledge of sales tax and sales tax software, such as Avalara or Taxjar, is a plus
- Experience with Netsuite or Sage Intacct is a plus; experience with evaluation of and implementation of a new financial system also a plus
