THE ROLE
This is an essential role within the finance and accounting department, must support the day-to-day transactions, including managing invoices, travel expenses and payments. You will be expected to partner with budget holders to ensure appropriate P&L management. Additionally, you will support the Finance Manager in driving improvement through financial insight and analysis. This is a one-year temporary, full time commitment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Monthly Reporting
- Responsible for the preparation of monthly results, variance analysis and commentary in accordance with the agreed corporate timetable for senior management review.
- Act as the finance department contact for designated departments / countries; providing them with financial assistance and ad hoc analysis where necessary.
Monthly Forecasting
- Prepare of revenue and P&L forecasts, variance analysis and commentary in accordance with the agreed corporate timetable for senior management review.
- Act as the finance department contact for designated departments; providing them with financial assistance and ad hoc analysis where necessary.
Reconciliation and Control
- Responsible for the account control and analysis of designated profit & loss and balance sheet accounts for Switzerland
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Controlling and overseeing the petty cash function for Geneva and Zurich
- Adhere to company policies and internal controls
Additional Analysis
- Sale analysis and support including projection of auction margins
- Provide ad-hoc analysis as required to support business and finance initiatives
Team
- Build strong working relationships within finance and the business
- Contribute to the wider team during month end, forecast to provide timely and accurate reports and analysis for senior management
Other Duties
- VAT import report for the Finance Manager
- Support annual audits
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
Qualified Accountant
- Educated to degree level
- Proven business acumen
- Excellent communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships
- Creative problem-solving ability
- Proven team management skills
- Excellent computer skills including Excel
- Experience of SAP advantageous but not essential
- Some knowledge of Sotheby’s or the art industry, its culture and services beneficial
- Command of multiple languages useful
