THE ROLE

The HR Business Partner role will serve in partnership with departmental leadership to drive a strategy aligned with the commercial, organizational and people needs of the business. The temporary position will be a one-year term based in New York and will work closely with the HR Business Partner teams in the Americas, Europe and Asia, as well as centers of excellence (Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development and Engagement). The ideal candidate must thrive in fast-paced environments, be able to manage through ambiguity and complexity, and have a clear understanding and experience of HR’s true role at the leadership table.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Partnership:

  • Act as a trusted advisor and consultant to senior leaders to improve their leadership capability, team effectiveness, strategic insight, and business performance.
  • Partner with leaders to enhance organizational effectiveness, organizational design, develop change management capabilities and drive decision-making based on people data and analytics.
  • Develop people and culture strategies in partnership with the Global VP, as well as the broader Sotheby’s strategy, initiatives, and accountabilities.
  • Lead the global implementation of the people and culture dimensions of each departments’ strategy and plan.
  • Implement the broader Sotheby’s talent processes within departments and tailor to the specific talent profiles within the group.
  • Be an advocate for the talent agenda, building knowledge and networks of talent, integrating talent with other culture and people processes (such as resourcing, succession planning, leadership development, and learning), and nurturing a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to develop the strategic workforce plan.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the broader Sotheby’s team across corporate, product & technology and the other divisions to ensure that we have a consistent, coherent delivery across all stakeholder groups.
  • Provide direct operational support for the senior leaders within the division and serve as an escalation point for issues arising at other levels, partnering with the regional HR teams.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5+ years of relevant HR experience
  • A track record of providing HR consultation to senior leadership
  • Maintain a can-do attitude and approach tasks with enthusiasm and optimism 
  • Strong understanding of HR programs and processes including compensation, performance management, and leadership development
  • Knowledge of various employment laws and their impact on HR matters
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills; analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated net positive contributor to company community and culture above and beyond job duties

The expected hourly rate for this position ranges from $50/hour - $75/hour. Employees in this role may be expected to work overtime, and will receive additional pay at the applicable overtime rate. In addition to hourly wages and overtime, successful candidates will be eligible for benefits as required by law. Our offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
