THE ROLE

Sotheby’s Wine is a retail wine and spirits merchant and an auction house with a store in the lobby of Sotheby’s headquarters on York Avenue in New York.

This role is primarily responsible for assisting with order fulfillment process, helping to distribute and deliver wine orders to clients, and working in our Retail Store to sell wine, process client orders, and provide client service.  It may also provide support for its auction activities as needed.

This role is on a Monday – Friday in-person schedule with possible overtime hours during the weekend, especially in the fourth quarter.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Operations and Warehouse teams to ensure that all orders are picked, packed and released for delivery, and coordinating this process with the warehouse as needed
  • Processing and confirming online orders
  • Pulling and packing orders from the store
  • Making sure orders are fully processed once the order has been delivered
  • Setting up the van roster and daily delivery schedules for the Wine Van
  • Liaising with shipping vendors to arrange and complete outbound client deliveries
  • Ensuring that there is constant communication with the responsible salesperson for each order
  • Obtaining proper signatures on delivery/pickup paperwork including those for auction clients
  • Managing payments for third party shippers
  • Assisting in retail store including greeting clients, answering phones and processing orders on the POS
  • Receiving wine from suppliers at the store
  • Ensuring shipping supplies are stocked at the store and office
  • In the absence of the van driver, ability to drive the van to make all deliveries and pickups

 

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Able to load and unload wine cases up to 40 pounds
  • Enjoy selling wine and a desire to learn more about wine (plus)
  • Ability to learn proprietary POS and website system
  • Flexibility to work overtime during the busy holiday season
  • Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Previous sales experience (plus)
  • Trustworthy, reliable, detail oriented, and discreet
  • Prior van/driving experience
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office suite, SAP (plus)

 

The proposed base salary for this position is $50,000-$55,000, and is eligible for overtime compensation. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.

This is an in-person role based out of our New York Headquarters.
