Job Summary

The role of Private Sales Specialist at our company is mission-critical, as our clients rely on the expertise, judgment, and honesty of our specialist team. Each member of that team is fully committed to serving as a trusted advisor and providing the best client service in our industry. They must always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity, and they must also possess a deep knowledge of and passion for the classic car hobby/industry. Applicants for this position will only be considered if they have demonstrable and proven collector car sales experience. 


  • Build lasting and trusted relationships with clients based on collector car expertise and quality advice.
  • Be a trusted advisor to clients for buying and/or selling collector cars, privately.
  • Help clients fulfill their passion, build/divest their collection, or make financial/portfolio decisions.
  • Drive revenues through consignments for private sales, including the identifying of collector cars for inventory for future sale and the sale of collector cars that exist in inventory.
  • Drive revenues by providing appraisals for clients for the purpose of estate planning, financing, and other relevant client needs.
  • Assist in the marketing, which may include coordination of photography, creation of events, attending events, researching, and writing of descriptions for private sales consignments.
  • Promote existing private sale consignments, sales, and events to current or prospective clients.
  • Generate and develop new clients by cold calling, networking, and following up on assigned leads.
  • Research and communicate the history, provenance, and unique selling features of private sales consignments.
  • Keep up-to-date records on sales calls, client contacts, and details of meetings in a timely manner.
  • Be a brand ambassador and represent RM Sotheby’s.
  • Other activities related to generating revenues via transaction of motor cars as assigned by employer

Job Requirements

  • Deep and proven expertise in/knowledge of collector cars (beyond strong interest or passion)
  • Demonstrated and proven sales experience, preferably in collector cars
  • Degree or diploma in a business- or sales-related field desirable
  • Strong knowledge of sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques
  • Proven sales ability with the capability to meet and surpass targets and goals
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Fluency in English is necessary, but the ability to communicate in other languages is a plus
  • Prior car sales experience at modern or classic car dealer will be given preference
