As the lead engineer for Sotheby’s Financial Services, you will be a key member of the SFS engineering team working to evolve the business from a full-service financial services organization, to a leading tech-enabled lending platform.

You will lead the SFS engineering efforts to architect and build the infrastructure needed to support rapid growth.  You will work across the SFS organization to implement new products and services that address significant client needs.  You’re responsible for building platforms ranging from loan and transaction processing, client-facing APIs, and other solutions that meet the Company’s expanding business needs.

You have a passion for crafting intuitive and delightful user experiences and wish to tackle hard engineering challenges working in concert with smart people. You have the ability to take on complex problems, learn quickly, iterate, and persist towards a good solution. 


  • Be a key member of the SFS engineering team working to propel the business to a leading full-service tech-enabled financial solutions platform.
  • Architect and build the infrastructure necessary for improved internal and external client-centric experiences.
  • Be responsible for architecting and scaling platforms ranging from loan and transaction processing, client-facing APIs, and other solutions that meet expanding business needs. 
  • Design elegant abstractions, shareable libraries, and robust APIs
  • Partner with product owners and engineers across Sotheby’s organization to architect and integrate SFS products into Sotheby’s products.
  • Leverage Sotheby’s technology team's existing data and machine learning platform and capabilities for SFS products
  • Be delivery-focused, adopting Agile methodologies and processes to maximize developer productivity 
  • Foster an engineering culture that values code quality and automated testing


  • 7+ years of experience in software development and architecture
  • Experience with one or more programming languages including but not limited to: JavaScript, Python, Go, or Java
  • Experience with front end technologies and/or front-end frameworks (React preferred)
  • Great communicator capable of translating complex technical topics for business stakeholders
  • Experience building high volume and highly scalable web services
  • Experience building highly available systems
  • Experience working in an Agile Development environment
  • Experience with continuous deployment and developing CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity and prior experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure technologies
  • General experience with API design and enterprise integration patterns
  • Fintech/financial services domain knowledge, specifically building integrations with loan management, accounting, and payments systems, would be beneficial
  • Ability to think creatively and critically and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic, and often ambiguous work environment
